Winston-Salem Journal LTE TU 04/10/12

False labels
Ignoring facts, the mainstream media labeled the Sanford, Fla., shooting of Trayvon Martin as being racially motivated and a hate crime.
Just as in the Tawana Brawley and Duke University lacrosse team debacles, the media jumped the gun, falsely reported the event, and then had to retreat.
They created a new minority group — "white Hispanic" — as the alleged shooter was found to be of mixed white/Hispanic blood.
Using their new logic, is President Obama a "white African-American"?
Would it not be much better if the news reported the news as it really is and not as they wish it to be?

A voice against annexation
Citizens all across North Carolina have worked tirelessly, for many years, to have a voice in the forced-annexation process. We have all made countless trips to Raleigh to speak with our representatives. We knew the fight was going to be tough, especially with our biggest hurdle, the N.C. League of Municipalities, which is made up of former and current mayors, councilmen and city officials, all of whom support forced annexation.
We thought we could see the light at the end of the tunnel with HB 56, but Judge Shannon Joseph found the bill unconstitutional ("Judge rejects annexation law," March 28).
The interesting thing about Judge Joseph is that she is married to Ripley Rand. Ripley Rand is the son of former longtime Senate Majority Leader Tony Rand. Tony Rand made it very clear to the opponents of forced annexation that no annexation-reform bill would leave his desk. Ripley Rand, in 2006, ruled against the citizens fighting forced annexation in Goldsboro.
It is my opinion that the ethical thing for Judge Joseph to do was to recuse herself from this case; same with Ripley Rand in 2006. Where is the justice?

For Romney
Can we apply Rep. Nancy Pelosi's principle of "we have to pass the bill so you can find out what is in it" to a second term with President Obama? One thing that we can be certain of is if his mouth is moving, he is lying. Due to the fact that he is such a convincing liar, we can't really afford another four years.
For the sake of the existence of our country we must select the lesser of the two evils in the upcoming elections. At least with Mitt Rommey we will have one who loves this country and the existing form of government. He is opposed to communism, supports the capitalistic system, is not anti-Israel and will attempt to control this idiotic spending course that President Obama has instituted.

Love over tradition
The public, reasonable-sounding, non-homophobic reason that conservatives give for opposing same-sex marriage is that they're supporting traditional marriage. It has always been one man, one woman, even when it hasn't been.
On the other side of the issue are people, human beings, American citizens, who want to marry the people they love and live their lives out with them.
I think love should trump tradition.

Sipprell is motivated
I cannot think of a better opportunity we have in this community than to elect David E. Sipprell as District Court Judge. His broad experience as a district court prosecutor (criminal, juvenile, domestic violence and traffic courts) would be reason enough to elect him, not to mention his being Forsyth County's first gang prosecutor. He also served with distinction as a JAG officer in the Air Force, and is a strong community volunteer.
But as a former neighbor I also know that David has a deeply personal commitment to our community. He was raised in Forsyth County, and he and his wife, Kyla, are raising their own family here.
What better motivation could he have for dedicating his life and career to the wellbeing and safety of Forsyth County families and citizens?

No respect
President Obama does not like or respect Congress, the Supreme Court, our Constitution, divided government, capitalism, success in business or church doctrine.
Now think about it. Everything that makes America unique and exceptional in the world, he has no respect for. Now that is scary.

  1. LTE #1 - Welcome back to the club, Ralph. Joe died some time ago, so the klavern meeting has been moved to the swamp behind Vernon's house...same time every Thursday night.

But we have lowered our standards a bit. You only have to pass two tests in order to go night riding with us.

    1. You have already succeeded on the 1st test by writing your LTE...it proves that your IQ is not over 75.

    2. The second test requires that you know who to hate and why. Clearly you are a bit confused by the term "hispanic". That is not surprising, because the term is almost always used incorrectly. "Hispanic" means "of Spain", so does not apply to anyone that isn't from Spain. But once the press begins to misuse a term, everyone jumps on the bandwagon. See "laid off" vs "fired".

The proper term is "latino" or "latina", as in "latinoamerican". Latinos are people who come from American nations whose language is "Latin", ie. Spanish, Portuguese or French.

Latinos can be almost any color, from pearly white to deepest black and any shade in between. Of course, we hate many of them because of their skin color, but we hate people like George Zimmerman because, although he is whitish, he is a Latino...either way, we get to hate everyone.

Got that? If so, show up Thursday and we'll get you fitted for your hood.

BTW, George now has his own website where he is requesting donations...don't know what for...maybe he wants a bigger gun. Please give until it hurts.

Oh, and the bit about the President. He is the issue of a black father and a white mother. Under the Jim crow laws, one drop of black blood made a person black, so the President is not "bi-racial". He is as black as the ace of spades.

Most "white" southerners are unaware that if their families have been around for four generations or more they probably have more than a few drops of black blood themselves. Say it ain't so, Joe.

Of course, you won't find any of those mongrels down in the swamp on Thursday night. Ya'll come.

    1. I'm an American female of Hispanic descent. At any given time in my life I will have self-identified as a Mexican-American, Chicana, Texican, Latina or even a Moja'o Indian. (For those of you who speak or even understand Spanglish, think a little bit about that last one.)

      Questions 7 & 8 on the 2000 Census changed how I self-identify myself.

  2. Good afternoon folks!
LTE 1: Mr. Zimmerman's ethnicity is Latino. His race is Caucasian. Regardless, Mr. Martin is still dead and the legal questions are still waiting to be answered.
LTE 2: "Justice" is not dependent on the opinion of a private person regarding a judge's fitness to hear a case.
LTE 3: "For the sake of the existence of our country..." LOL! Hyperbolize much? Fyi...the POTUS can't do squat without the approval of Congress who holds the purse strings of the "idiotic spending course".
LTE 4: "It has always been one man, one woman, even when it hasn't been." - thank you for pointing that out. For the most of history, it has actually been one man-multiple women/girls or pubescent boy - girl pre-arranged.
    LTE 5: Endorsement
LTE 6: Ms. Anderson's monthly I-hate-Obama rant. Project much?

  3. Just noticed the last LTE from Kay Anderson. She says:

"President Obama does not like or respect Congress, the Supreme Court…"

Right. That puts him in synch with the rest of America, which racks up a paltry 12% approval rating for the Congress and 28% for the Supreme Court.

The rest of her screed includes the Constitution, divided government, whatever that means, capitalism, success in business and church doctrine.

Ignoring nebulous BS such as capitalism and success in business, one can only say that the inclusion of the Constitution and religious doctrine in the same sentence constitutes an oxymoron.

I think Kay's LTE meets both of the qualifying tests mentioned above, for low IQ and knowing who to hate.

So Kay, welcome to the swamp, the usual time Thursday night. Since you are a woman, you can bring the brownies.

  4. ". . . Since you are a woman, you can bring the brownies."?????

    RUSH!!!! I RESENT THAT COMMENT!!!! ;-}

  5. So do I. You need to get into the spirit of my posts. I am not speaking as OT Rush, but in the voice of the kludd (chaplain) of the local klavern, inviting new members to join us in the swamp.

The kuklos is a manly organization, representing the best (ha, ha!) aspects of the underbelly of white male loser machismo (cf "George Zimmerman"), but it has always welcomed women who have the proper level of hate...in its most powerful days in the 1920s and early '30s it was run by an idiot husband and wife team.

But even today a woman who can cook and sew is a valued member. After all, hating is hungry work, and it takes quite a bit of skill to make an attractive, well-fitting hood.

  6. Don't know who/what that is, but okay. You're forgiven.

  7. we're talking about the KKK, the Ku Klux Klan...long forgotten but still lingering. I just had a conversation a few days ago with one of the former local leaders.

He used to hate mostly black people and Jews...now his focus is on hispanics/latinoamericans/mexicans/texicans/chicanas, whatever. But he still has a little time left over to hate President Obama as well, not to mention the atheists who are taking away his religious freedoms one by one.

He is a fool, but still views himself as the great white christian hero savior of "America". And thanks to the takeover of the Republican Party by christian idiots, he is still a very dangerous person.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I kinda got the KKK reference on your 06:49pm post. I was interested once with someone who made no excuses for his animosity towards anyone non-white. Actually, he showed interest towards me; I still wonder why, I'm obviously "darker 'n' snow". Anyway, it must have been a deal breaker for him cz it never went beyond telephone conversations. His loss, really.

  9. And speaking of self-identification, there is a lot of fascinating information about that and many other important subjects at this website. Check it out:

    Sociological Images

Ignorant people like to make fun of sociology, but some of the best and most solid research in recent years has been in the sociology area. Much of "what we know" is based on "what we don't know".

    1. Thanks for the link. I don't remember what the census surveys looked like prior to 2000, and I never really paid attention to any that I myself completed as an adult.

Something interesting: I worked as a re-interview clerk for the 2010 census and had a discussion with my co-workers re self-ID. To MANY Latino immigrants race = nationality. To many of them, there is no ethnicity. Yet, additional discussions with Black co-workers noted that there are BLACK Latinos, in which we concluded that we as Americans have the need make a distinction between race and ethnicity.

    2. Which was a major point in my first post today.

Race and ethnicity are two entirely different matters, yet the unfortunate average American is not capable of making the distinction.

Not that either should matter, really.

Yesterday I was at a meeting and encountered a woman who I had never seen before. She was extremely attractive and even more articulate.

So after the meeting I had to ask a friend who seemed to know her. She laughed.

"I knew you would ask," she said. "Just your type. She just arrived a week ago from (a South American country). Her husband is your friend X."

Oops. X and I had discussed his wife, who was having a visa problem, but I had never seen even a picture of her. I'm sure that she will be a huge addition to our local life, but I will have to adore her from a certain distance. That's OK.

We can never have too many bright and attractive women of any race/ethnicity in our city.

In fact, our future depends upon such women, and men, who come from every area of the globe.

  10. Sorry, but I'm laughing. What is an ethnic/race hater doing talking on the phone with a woman who is "darker 'n' snow"? Had he never seen you?

Maybe he has the "Rush Limbaugh Syndrome". Rush hates just about everybody who is darker than him, yet he has spent a lot of time in Central America and the Caribbean, especially the Dominican Republic and Costa Rica, paying some darker women for sex, probably because even the hookers in his neck of the woods want nothing to do with him.

Nothing like a hypocrite to set the mind a wondering.

    1. We both know what the "darker 'n' snow" reference is about. Actually, a part-time co-worker who was a full-time Davidson County deputy told me the story a few months after I arrived in NC. For the longest time I wouldn't go past the Davidson County Line. ;-D

Yes, he and I met when I was working retail; he was a regular customer at the store I worked at. I figured he had made an exception to his rule . . . what can I say? I have that effect on people.
