Finish the Thought
Saturday, we asked readers to complete the sentence: "President Obama declared his support for same-sex marriage because …"
"... it was politically expedient for him. Certainly not on principle."
CHRISTINE PULISELIC
"... he has no real principles. He knows he is slipping in the polls, and he is pandering for votes by prostituting himself to anyone who will buy."
LINDA DORIO
" … it is what he believes and has believed for some time. It will change very few voters' minds either for or against him."
CYNTHIA GOUGH NANCE
" … it is the right thing to do to uphold the civil rights of the citizens of America and the principle of equality before the law. Marriage right is civil right and human right, and sexual discrimination is political and social discrimination. Anti-same-sex under the mask of religious belief is still discriminatory."
BOON T. LEE
" … as with most important issues he took the time to think before making a decent Christian decision, a decision that sets him apart from the pseudo-Christians of North Carolina. Pseudo … a prefix meaning false or pretended."
KENNITH B. SCALF
" … he is a 100 percent liberal and is trying to guarantee himself the vote from the gays and lesbians."
FRANK SCISM
" … he believes in equality for all. Others should follow his lead."
WILLIAM SAMS
" … he is a decent human being who lives in the 21st century. Times have changed, and when the Bible was written 2000 years ago, the word "homosexuality" was not known. President Obama realizes that the nonacceptance of same-sex marriage will have dire consequences for many couples who are not married and for their children. Their health care will be discontinued and they won't legally be allowed to visit their partner in the hospital if the relatives decide this. Also, the partner's relatives can take all the belongings of the deceased without asking permission. It will make professional people think twice before starting a business in North Carolina. Who wants to be discriminated against? For centuries it was considered a disease. Unfortunately, still many people won't allow the LGBT equal rights. How could Barack Obama, as a black man, not agree with same-sex marriage? The black race has been discriminated so long and the passing of the amendment is in my eyes discrimination, which is usually fueled by ignorance and hate. I hope the president will be re-elected and — after the talk — will be able to walk the walk."
COBY BISHOP
" … President Obama is president of all Americans, not just a few that put him in office. For this president to take a stand on support for same-sex marriage is telling the world, I believe in every single human being's worth. This is not a slander to God or for those who believe in God; this is a president I think that is sick and tired of decent human beings being used as steppingstones in the name of Jesus. This is government, people — not your Sunday church service."
JUDY WILLARD
" … it' s the right thing to do. On a personal level, I do not agree with their lifestyle, but I do agree that all men and women are created equally under the eyes of God, and should be under the eyes of our government. Who's next? Look out, left-handers!!!!
ALLEN HUSS
" … of conviction. History books will remember Obama for doing for gays what LBJ did for African-Americans . . . that is, he has led his party across a great divide to claim an unequivocal position. Clinton supported the Defense of Marriage Act, then said he regretted it. Obama will not turn back."
KAM BENFIELD
" … it was the right thing to do."
CATHERINE W. PITTS
" … as he stated, he finally came to realize the importance of the word 'marriage,' which governs the laws and benefits granted to citizens who are allowed to legally marry in our country."
AVA LEE BERNISH
It's nice to see that people on the right are evolving, kinda like Dick Cheney and Laura Bush. I mean a few years ago a politician favoring marriage equality would have been accused of wanting to destroy the fabric of society. At least now on the right it means political expediency, pandering, and trying to win an election.
ReplyDeleteGreat to hear from you this morning.
Deletehttp://www.motherjones.com/mixed-media/2012/05/mark-fiore-gay-marriage-bible
lol, funny, Ya know, being an abomination isn't so bad. If shrimp and polyester blends can be taken off the list, there's hope for us all.
DeleteSay! Is gluttony still a sin? Only ~ 6% of Americans are gay, but 60% are overweight or obese. My what shall we ever do? So abominations can be taken off the list as witnessed by the Bible (shrimp, etc), but can a SIN be taken off the list?
DeleteAnd Arthur, truth be known, bucky doesn't bother me, he's an idiot, but that guy Wes Patterson was getting to me so I made a subjective choice. I chose for a while not to subject myself to religion or politics.
ReplyDeleteThe guy must have an M.A. in self-righteousness from Liberty.
DeleteThat guy pushes my buttons too. So did NCLaw. It's the pious self-righteousness that makes me want to smack them upside their heads.
DeleteI'll bet that guy, uh LindseyGraham, never bothered you though.
DeleteNCLaw (Bo Houff) inspired my critical thinking skills more than anything else. Didn't he post here, too? Wes Patterson absolutely pushed my buttons but I think I push his buttons more than he pushes mine, especially re A1 and voter ID. In fact, I've posed a question to him re voter id AT LEAST three times that he's ignored, so I'm sure I've got him pinned.
DeleteGood end, bad end

I wonder if Eric Cantor's wife will remain on the board of directors now?
DeleteThis will be fun to read the reactions to this news on the journal forum. I posted that link just now.
DeleteMaybe Billy Prim was involved somehow.
DeleteI saw it on twitter. Checked Journal's site before I posted here. There was no mention of it before I left for work.
Deletehahahahaha, that would really test my beliefs.
Deletenot the twitter but if Mr Prim were somehow magically involved
DeleteWhy would he be?
DeleteHi, Bob, welcome home.
That's just me making fun of some of the crazies on the old Journal site who were obsessed with the guy.
DeleteINMYHUMBLEOPINION, nativeheel, The Constitutionalist, among others.
Yes, there is a lot of Prim envy on the right in this town.
DeleteCan you imagine what Harvey must think? Blue Rhino is the name of one of Prim's companies.
DeleteWatchawg...he's the only one who's still around.
DeleteI come in contact with Mr. Prim occasionally at my POB. Mr. Prim is a really nice man. Some of my other co-workers don't think he is and I can see where he could be an SOB but my JOB is to make people smile, anyway.
Deleteme haces sonreir :D
DeleteOh, and NohoHouse...how could I forget. He'd call me asshole on a regular basis, and was considered quite the wit by the guardians of propriety JHLion and NCLaw. Good times.
Delete@Bob: es mi placer.
DeleteArthur: of the monikers you've just mentioned, are any of them still commenting on JournalNow online? What are their names?
DeleteI'm pretty sure Watchawg is Harvey Pulliam...same writing patterns. NCLaw is Bo Houff. I don't know about the others.
DeleteI think Harvey "Watchawg" Pulliam is the only one I could say with certainty. NCLaw has posted by his name, lives out in Lewisville, and attends the Methodist Church, where I suppose I am still a member.
DeleteBo, that's it.
DeleteOh, and JHLion is a guy named John Hagemann. He was really bad about insulting people's intelligence and trying to frame debate by asking leading, rhetorical questions.
DeleteHe quit after Macavity (OT) started insulting him back. Some folks can dish it out but they can't take it.
FrankZappasnappa.
DeleteBo Houff.
DeleteI think Frank and BigTuna were the same person. They played the race card in the same cutsie way -- they'd talk about their tax money going to the "unproductive" neighborhoods.
DeleteSomehow, I don't think they were talking about Buena Vista and Sherwood Forest.
hello
Deletearthur
at least noho was funny on some occasions
bigoted and tasteless yes
but occasionally funny
I'm funny too. Most of you just don't enjoy my humor though.
DeleteYeah, NoHo was funny alright...just not "ha ha" funny.
DeleteCaniacSteve still posts regularly as well. NCLaw and JHLion at least had a rationale behind their thought processes other than parroting talk radio points. I find that it's pretty much useless to debate anyone who has "the Bible says it, I believe it, that settles it" approach to life.
DeleteConversely, I find it worthless to debate someone that thinks they know everything when they were born on a tiny planet in the universe.
DeleteIt's funny how I should let the passage of the Protection of Marriage Amendment go, but yet it is discussed in the LTEs and in the forum everyday now. I just got back in the forum's saddle yesterday. So, I wanted to make a few comment regarding the passage. I still support civil unions because of the tax issues.
ReplyDeleteHas this forum turned solely into a gay rights activists' forum since I was gone?
I wonder what Bobby would call himself if he realized that he incorrectly identified a person in this forum, and then continually tried to berate and belittle that person because of his/her views so that the person would leave the forum? Hmmmmmm Does the word 'bigot' come to mind?
Yes, liberals ALWAYS know everything. Don't they?
But I'm always glad to hear from Bobby, no matter what words he choses.
DeleteThe problem with civil unions is that THERE IS no civil unions. The Winston Salem 10 were DENIED a civil union. It's all been a smokescreen.
DeleteOne thing we need to work on is getting separate, or at least private, bathroom facilities for heterosexual people. It's clearly problematic to allow gays to look at hetero people's private parts and to obtain sexual gratification as a result.
DeleteThe gay community has become more and more emboldened recently. We already have sexual assaults by homosexual pedophiles in these facilities at high levels, it won't be long until these types of assaults become epidemic.
In short, when you're at the 'Y', look over your shoulder when you change clothes.
A-H-H-H, yes. The Jim Crow Law. Those were the days.

Well I do
Hey, who's in charge here?
It's a jungle out there
Poison in the very air we breathe
Do you know what's in the water that you drink?
Well I do, and it's amazing
People think I'm crazy, 'cause I worry all the time
If you paid attention, you'd be worried too
You better pay attention
Or this world we love so much might just kill you
I could be wrong now, but I don't think so!

Minority births now out pace white births. Will white americans soon get minority status and receive preferential treatment in hiring and in school admissions? Don't hold your breath.
ReplyDeleteRace and sex based discimination is promoted and advocated daily by the liberal left, which is clearly against the Constitution, yet they whine like a sick dog about gay marriage being denied.
And they call conservatives hypocrites, what hogwash.
How long will it take RW to do a 180 on the abortion thing?
DeleteBased on your reasoning that "sex based discrimination" is "clearly against the Constitution" it seems logical that Amendment One then should be repealed. I'm so GLAAD you think so, too!!!!
Delete'Whites' need to get preferential treatment for the next 40 years to redress past discrimination.

ReplyDeleteDang it! I wanted Rielle Hunter to testify in the 'Johnny' trial. I'd like to hear her explanation for why she filmed a 'love making' session between herself and 'Johnny'.
ReplyDeleteI'll bet there's a copy of that 'screwy' tape is still out there somewhere.
There are six (6) African Americans on the 'Johnny' jury. So, do the math. We know that at least 90% of them of them are Democrats.
DeleteWe also know that Democrats don't use logic in analytical or critical reasoning, so I'm predicting a 'not guilty' verdict.
Johnny is a 'SINNER', but not a criminal per his defense attorneys. Hee Hee....I could think of a few other choice words for him.

Robert Lyzenga, Pastor, Charged With Installing Cameras In Church's Women's Bathroom
ReplyDeleteAn Indiana pastor could be facing felony voyeurism charges after a congregation member found cameras installed in the women's bathroom at his Lafayette church.
Robert Lyzenga, 55, was arrested late last week on suspicion of voyeurism after a church member reported finding two cameras hidden in fake air fresheners in the bathroom stalls, CBS Chicago reports. Police found footage of two adult women and a juvenile girl using the restroom on the cameras' memory cards.

On the same topic: Gaston pastor indicted; prosecutor says he had sex with minors in Haiti
DeleteThat's why we need to get separate bathrooms from homosexuals. They are opportunists and driven by sexual urges just like heterosexuals.
DeleteStrangely, both of you have made my point for me.
Maybe we should go back to outhouses.
DeleteNOT strangely, yours is pointless.
DeleteCome on Rielle, you know you're not cute.

Such language. You really are a chola!

DeleteGood afternoon folks! Only finish the thought today?
ReplyDeleteFinish the thought: Biden forced his hand. Simple enough. I highly doubt this will make any difference come November. Glad to see mostly thoughtful and positive responses.
The people that write into the Journal are the same tired liberal propagandists that write in everyday.
DeleteIt's clear after the recent vote for the 'Marriage Protection Amendment' that they have little effect on most sane thinking people.
I kind of wish NCLaw(Bo) was on here to perhaps answer a question. The 2nd paragraph of A1 which exempted private companies was not included on the ballot. Does this mean it will not be included on NC's consitution since technically it was never approved by the voters? The failure to include the entire amendment on the ballot makes me question the viability of the vote.
ReplyDeleteIn the Haiti case, Bollinger is being prosecuted under an amended Federal law that was originally intended to apply to the white slave trade:
ReplyDelete18 U.S.C. § 2423 : US Code - Section 2423: Transportation of minors
Only part "a" deals with transportation of minors. Parts "b" and "c" forbid US citizens to travel abroad with intent to participate in illicit sexual activity.
As always, Chatty Cathy has a serious reading and comprehension problem. Wordly's post above concerns a male pastor using cameras to spy on female members of his congregation. Mr. Bollinger traveled to Haiti to engage the services of teenaged girls. The indictment says "under 18" but most likely they were in the 14-15 range.
Neither case in any way represents the sort of thing that gets Miss Chatty all steamed up.
Attorney General Eric Holder is a political hack?
ReplyDeleteO'REILLY: In Arizona on the immigration case, he's going to lose on what issue?
KRAUTHAMMER: He's going to lose on the issue that -- and you saw it in the oral arguments -- the solicitor general tries to make the case that it is illegal for the state of Arizona to assist the federal government in carrying out its responsibilities on immigration. Somehow the exclusivity of the feds excludes any state assisting in that enforcement.
O'REILLY: So that would be like saying to the state police, you can't help us solve a bank robbery, because bank robbery is a federal crime, so stay out of it. If the bank robber goes through your town, you can't even call us.
KRAUTHAMMER: Precisely. And the case was so weak that in the oral argument, Justice Sotomayor, who was certainly no right winger, said of the solicitor general, defending the Obama case, "This isn't selling very well, is it?"
And they know it. This is done as pure political pandering.
I know how many of you enjoy making fools out of yourselves regarding the Zimmerman investigation. But, please read the following definitions of stippling and intermediate range shootings before you go off 'half-cocked' with your limited, liberal brains making unjustified conclusions about self-defense and the Martin/Zimmerman case.
ReplyDeleteRange of Fire:
Contact: muzzle of gun touches target
- Tight: fouling in tissue, muzzle stamp
- Loose: fouling on skin and in tissue, searing
Close: <6" Stippling & Fouling
Intermediate: 6-30" Stippling
Distant: >30" Neither
(Distances approximate and depend on many variables. For accurate assessment need to test fire weapon with ammunition used.)
We all know how warped AG Eric Holder's office is when it comes to cases related to race.
DeleteWell, take a read of how the FBI agent entitled his report regarding the Martin/Zimmerman investigation.

Also...............Big Surprise!
Martin had marijuana in his system!

One resident told an investigator he saw a black male in a hooded sweatshirt on top of a white or Hispanic male who was yelling for help. He said the black male was throwing mixed-martial-arts-style punches.
Delete__________
What? You mean the 13 year old Martin who had 'skittles' in his hand was throwing marital arts punches at Zimmerman?
________
FDLE report shows a contact wound was found on Martin, not an intermediate range wound like the liberal NBC reported earlier. You gotsta be kidding. A mainstream media outlet tried to distort the truth?
