THURSDAY LTE's 08/02/2012

Good AM, folks! Bob is taking a sabbatical from the Forum. He is sick of the hate speech on these pages. Bucky, lest you think you have won, if the hate speech persists, you will be on permanent sabbatical. I should have done it sooner, rather than let you abuse my friend. This is the last warning.

Finish the Thought
Saturday, we asked readers to complete the sentence:
"People continue to abuse animals because ..."
* * * * *

"… even though we have Susie's Law, the horrible people who starve, abuse or neglect animals are given a slap on the wrist by judges, like Todd Burke did with Angelanetta Gladden."

KELLIENE FISHER
* * * * *

"… they are spineless cowards not brave enough to take control in their own lives, but get a feel of dominance abusing animals."

STEVE SHORE
* * * * *

"… judges and laws are not strict enough to protect animals and because those who do heartlessly disregard God's creation."

MARSHA CRUMPLER
* * * * *

"… in my opinion people acquire compassion for others and animals as a learned behavior growing up. People with a lack of compassion combined with laziness leads to animal neglect.
"Lack of knowledge could be a factor, but people generally seek out information if they want to. So I'm not sure if you can really consider that."

STEPHANIE RIDEOUT DANNER
* * * * *

"… they have not been taught compassion; because they have been abused in some way themselves; because there may be underlying sociopathic tendencies; because our society in general has increasingly ignored corporate animal abuse on factory farms; and/or because they somehow have become inured to violence in general... all and any of which call for immediate intervention, compassionate teaching and some form of therapeutic treatment."

CANDIDE JONES
* * * * *

"… they (those who do so) are basically mean, cruel and sadistic individuals. I believe many parents today are too busy with their own doings to take the time to teach their children to be kind to other people and animals.
"I do hope the child who tormented little Heaven will be severely punished. I'm glad this was on the front page of the Journal — my only complaint was that the name of the child involved was not given. I would dearly love to be the one to dish out the punishment in this case as well as the other two recent abuse cases."

WILMA B. COOK
* * * * *

"… in regard to cruelty to animals, Seneca (4 B.C.-A.D. 65) said it best: 'All cruelty springs from weakness.' "

JOAN VASATA
* * * * *

"… they are unable to appreciate the suffering that they are causing. They cannot comprehend the consequences of their actions well enough to create empathy.
"People abuse animals because they are, in a word, ignorant. Society is to blame for tolerating this behavior and, thereby, perpetuating it. If the consequences for animal abuse were more severe, these self-preserving people would learn very quickly."

DEBBIE SERANG
* * * * *

"… they don't value the worth of animals nor comprehend their physical and mental suffering. Consequently they think no more of kicking a dog than they do an empty soda can. It doesn't help that animals can't talk back, can't press assault charges and that those in our society (like judges Todd Burke and Roland Hayes) let people get away with it, year after year after year."

KEITH MURPHY
* * * * *

"… dogs are great, cats are good and some people are evil."

BRAD CRAIG
* * * * *

"… there are seldom any true consequences for their actions. Our community should stand united to support Forsyth County Animal Control and the Forsyth County District Attorney's Office for all their hard work to bring these cases to court. What a shame that our judicial system does not do its job to impose harsh sentences to people who abuse helpless animals."

LESLIE MORRIS
* * * * *

"… there is a huge misconception that animals are property like cars, sofas, used toys, hunting rifles or punching bags. Animal, especially dogs, are our oldest companions, dating back 20,000 years. Without these companions, we the human race would have failed and never have made it as far as we have.
"We owe our animal companions a debt of gratitude, a warm place to sleep, and a gentle 'thank you' when the day is done. Anything else is a shadowy reminder we are no different than our ancestors cowering in the dark 20 millennium ago."

ADAM BOWDITCH
* * * * *

"… they are not receiving the maximum penalty of the laws that we do have in place. Some of our judges and some of our animal-control officers are not enforcing the laws that we do have, although I wish the laws had much more severe penalties."

LORI SHORE-SMITH
* * * * *

"… our society is meaner than ever before.
"We are inundated with so much violence and cruelty in movies, on TV and other media that we have become hardened to it. Those children who so cruelly killed a helpless kitten need serious psychiatric help, and Social Services and the law should also take a very close look at their parents, because those kids learned cruelty from somewhere."

LINDA DIORIO
* * * * *

"… they are not taught empathy or respect for life at home. Children who abuse animals when they are young abuse people when they are adults. Parents have some responsibility for their children's actions."

JAN WADDELL
* * * * *

"… disturbed people take their anger out on helpless animals that have no voice."

DONNA MOLOFSKY
* * * * *

"… Of course the kids think it is OK to torture and kill a kitten. They are being brought up in a culture that says it is OK to kill a baby while that baby is in the process of being born.
"Kids are not stupid. They hear and see what is going on around them. They make logical conclusions. Something their elders regularly fail to do."

GEORGE B. GREDELL
* * * * *

"… they have low self-esteem and feel they can take out the frustration in their lives on defenseless creatures that cannot or won't fight back. This for the most part can be a learned behavior passed on from generation to generation. It can only be changed by awareness, education and a new respect for the lives of innocent animals."

    1. Bucky,

      Many of us enjoy coming here for the forum's entertainment value. You are hell bent on destroying this platform with your vial hatred while you purport to espouse your 1st and 2nd Amendments rights.

    2. The real hate and bigotry is coming from your side, as I see it.

      I think many of the people that visited Chick-fil-A yesterday see it the same way, that's why they went to the restaurants yesterday.

    3. And the 'entertainment' value is probably seeing a pack of liberals berate and belittle the mean old conservative, I'd bet. Am I right?

    4. Self pity is the hallmark of the weak, foolish and cowardly.

      "You won't have Nixon to kick around anymore..."

      Would that that were true, but Dick made a comeback just so he could show us what a piece of scum he was.

    5. Nixon was not a bad president-he was just scummy person, like Clinton.

    6. My comment wasn't really about Nixon...it was about your pathetic whining about being picked on...you have never "won" a single argument on this forum because your "facts" are bullshit and you don't know how to arrange them logically anyway...if you're unhappy here, why don't you create your own forum...you could call it "Free Speech for Liars & Bigots" or something stupid like that.

    7. Rush, would you try to use a little more diplomacy, and thoughtful use of the English language? Using vulgar language is not in keeping with this forum's family theme.

  2. I don't blame Stab...I know that he, like me, feels very strongly about the 1st Amendment and is extremely reluctant to censor anyone.

    I certainly don't blame Bob for wanting relief from the torrent of filth that pours forth from Bucky's keyboard...he is literally some sort of sub-human life form.

    His obsession with homosexuality is so extreme that it clearly marks him as a latent homosexual who is so afraid to admit who he is and so angry at what he knows he is that he must redirect his self loathing to others. Classic case.

    I always find it sad that any person cannot relax and be what they are, because life is so very, very short. My friends tease me about being a dirty old man because I so enjoy chatting up lovely thirtyish women half my age, but they know that I do it out of the sheer joy of being around such lovely creatures and not because I am trying to seduce them...as if that could happen. When you reach my age, you learn to grab your pleasure where you can.

    1. Free speech to liberals is free as long as you are saying what they want to hear, that's the bottom line.

      Mr. Cathy found that out the hard way.

    2. One of your problems is that you are just plain stupid.

      Free speech has to do with the government. It has nothing to do with private business, nor with any business's customers.

      If a business owner is stupid enough to make bigoted statements in public, then he must be prepared to suffer the consequences. Nobody is interfering with his right to free speech. They are just saying that they will not buy products from christian bigots.

      The vast majority of businesses in the US behave in a civilized manner and provide all of their employees the same benefits, no matter what their sexual preference. You don't hear them going around bragging in the national press, because such matters are private between employers and owners.

      But when some jackass stands up and shouts "Hey, look at me, I'm a bigoted hater!" people are going to take notice and react, as they have every right to do.

      So shut up with your free speech bullshit until you can learn what free speech actually is. If dunces like you had been in charge in 1776, we'd still be flying the Union Jack.

  3. Interesting to note that the usual suspects who cannot agree on anything have found common ground in cats and dogs, which are usually, well, fighting like cats and dogs.

    I have a lot of compassion for all animals, but I have way more for fellow humans. We live in the richest country in the history of the world and I do get tired of all the tax whiners who resent providing assistance to those less fortunate...shame on the selfish and greedy.

  5. BTW, since Dunce was yammering on about it being too bad that some CCW dolt wasn't around at the time, here's what actually happened down on Hawthorne road Tuesday morning:

    KEYSTONE KROOKS?
    Or the Gang That Could Shoot Straight But Had the Wrong Gun

    Anyone who has ever been inside Gold Express on South Hawthorne Road knows the drill. Owner and his dad packing heat in shoulder holsters. More guns displayed around the store. A clear message is sent:

    “We dare you to try to rob us.”

    Of course, there are always people ready to take on any dare. Some are compelled to do so. I could name three: Jamon Antwan Horton, John Samuel Williams, Dewon Lamont Jamison. Three well known criminal geniuses. Having presumably cased the joint, they knew that the old finger in the pocket trick wasn’t going to work.

    So they armed themselves with two shotguns and a handgun and stormed fortress Gold Express. What exactly happened at that point is uncertain at the moment. Perhaps owner Todd Gower tried to draw his gun, or resisted in some other way, or perhaps one of the perp’s shotguns just went off accidentally. Gower was shot in the head and the robbers bolted with $60,000 in cash, jewelry, and collector coins. Oh, and a gun. On the way out, one of them tried to snatch a woman’s purse, but failed. What a bunch of dunces.

    The desperadoes leaped into their getaway car and roared off up Hawthorne Road. The alarm was sounded and soon the WSPD was in hot pursuit. The perps pulled their car into the Medical Center Boulevard parking deck and abandoned ship, scattering to three of the four winds.

    The cops nabbed one of them right away in the deck. Medical Center security locked down the complex while the police looked for the other two. A second was soon found hiding in a dumpster on Craig Street, which is a pretty good distance from where the dunces abandoned their car, and after about two hours, the third was discovered hiding in the restroom of the Davis Chapel at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.

    By then, Gower had been taken to the trauma center at the Medical Center. The medics removed thirty pellets of bird shot from his head…remember when Dick Cheney shot his hunting partner? Gower went home yesterday. That shotgun must have been a .410. If it had been a 12 gauge loaded with double ought buck, he would have been going to the graveyard. All over a pittance.

    I think our boys are about to lose their "genius" rating. They'll have plenty of time to think about that while they're resting up down at our luxury high rise "detention center", because Horton and Williamson are under $1 million bail. Jamison, because he's got an extra charge for possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, got $1 million plus $1. Somehow I doubt that their pals down at perp center can raise the $450,000.15 it would take to spring them.

    1. Rush,

      I'm going to have to teach you some writing skills, because you always seem to end up making a fool of yourself in here.

      "Perhaps owner Todd Gower tried to draw his gun, or resisted in some other way, or perhaps one of the perp’s shotguns just went off accidentally."

      In short, we don't know what happened that caused the perp to shoot or if the owner tried to defend himself.

      Also, if you're going to take the time to put up an extensive bunch of gibberish in this forum, it should have a opening, a body, and closing.

      There's no closing to your jibber jabber. When you put pen to paper, or in this case, jibber jabber to keyboard. Try to use your time and MY time more efficiently by making a proper written presentation.

      Thanks in advance.

      Sincerely yours,
      Bucky

  7. The end of the blog or the the end of the blog as we know it.

    I do think Bob is gone for good.

    I am continually amazed that O.T still bothers to respond to Bucky's inane postings. I do feel blessed to have sponged off O.T.'s knowledge for so long. I feel like I've taken a class from a really great professor and I've learned a lot about beer, history, economics, life and human interactions.

    I enjoy Dotnet's succinct assessment of the weekly letters.

    I love it when the cousins go to battle point on point.

    Whitewall's commentary makes me think about things from a different point of view.

    Bob could say what I would like to say and he seems to me express it almost effortlessly.

    Arthur, La Sombra, Stab and myself occasionally post a point or two.

    Bucky just produces diarrhea of the blog.

    Stab, if you would post a starting heading I will try and post letters as comments in the morning if you would like me (or another member) to do that.

    Whatever happens, LTEforum.blogspot.com as it was known before is gone forever.

    2. Don't think it's the end, as we know it or otherwise, Wordly. I've done some volunteer work in domestic violence shelters; the forum is in the classic honeymoon stage. The aggressor has been admonished, the agressor (although not remorseful) pulls a few punches but holds back. These scenes are cyclical; take a peek down memory lane that is the 1 year old forum and you will see the stages of verbal abuse. I've "bonded" with all participants, but I refuse to be abused. If the abuse continues I respond in same. Case closed.

    8. Just think...if Dunce could bring himself out of the closet and do what he would really like to do, he could be one of the kissers.

      I would pay to see that moment, because it would mean that one more person had liberated themselves and could then take the first step toward the pursuit of happiness that Thomas Jefferson promised him 236 years ago.

      Jefferson could not promise happiness to anyone...that is why he added the phrase "pursuit of"...because that is up to the individual.

      But what a great and radical concept that was, that a government could offer such an opportunity. Too bad that a few sad bigots today are out to overturn that promise.

      The good news is that they are a rapidly dwindling minority. 20-30 years from now they will seem a part of ancient history, like the racists and misogynists and other haters of the past.

  8. Wordly, thank you for your kind offer. I will post headings, and will post LTE's when possible. If your schedule permits and you wish, I will confer posting rights to you.

    As for the death of the blog, it will persist, and perhaps Bob will return. I hope that discourse will take a more courteous and civil turn. We're doing a bit of venting today, and that's fine. But, there is a world out there, insufficiently addressed by the Journal's LTE's and in this forum.

    For instance, there are upcoming elections, the economy, national debt, balance of trade, Soviet oops Russian activity, Syria, global warming, the AQ activity in Mali, Europe's economy, crime, political dysfunction and polarization, the Higgs boson, affirmative action, etc. I believe in diversity, in the broader sense and in terms of discussion. However, we have worn certain topics out.

    I also believe in freedom of speech and the expression of ideas. I do not believe in dehumanizing speech, the kind that has repelled one of my best friends. This blog ain't governed by the First Amendment. Dehumanizing speech may be tolerated elsewhere, whether by our resident homophobe or Louis Farrakhan, but it is not acceptable here.

    Now, let's address what really matters.

      OK, cuz, you've got me laughing again.

      After gazing into Putin's eyes and seeing his soul down in Crawford, it took W a while to catch on to just how badly he had been hornswoggled, but I think this little story gets him back on track, courtesy of our neighbors to the north:

      Bush introduced then-Russian President Putin to his Scottish terrier, Barney, on a visit to the U.S. presidential retreat, Camp David.

      Putin returned the favor when Bush visited Russia and Putin was giving him a tour of the grounds of his dacha.

      A big black Labrador came charging across the lawn. With a twinkle in his eye, Vladimir said, '"Bigger, stronger, faster than Barney."

      Bush later told the story to the Canadian prime minister, Stephen Harper, who replied: "You're lucky he only showed you his dog."

    4. LaSombra...that is classic troll stuff...jump into a meaningful discussion with some nonsensical comment.

      I said many months ago that the best medicine is to simply ignore him. Let him talk to himself for a few days, as he seems quite willing to do.

      But I couldn't follow my own advice, because the logic of my life has always been to seize any opportunity to conduct a scientific experiment, and our boy is such a perfect opportunity to take a peek into serious psychiatric illness.

      Every time anyone responds to his posts, we are playing into his need for attention. He must have been severely neglected as a child.

    Just stopping by to see if anything had changed on the Forum, it hasn't. I was sorry to see that Bob has left, maybe if you all are lucky, he will return.

    Bucky and Rush, try not to be so harsh with your comments. You two are the reason that I left and probably the reason that others don't stick around.

    Stab, e-mail me sometime, I would love to hear from you.

    Whitewall, I read some of your posts from the last week (looking to see why Bob left), you still make me smile.

    I truly hope that all of you are healthy and happy, if not happy, at least content, in your lives. If any of you pray, then please pray for me. My youngest daughter leaves for her first year of college in a couple of weeks and even though I am excited for her, I am already mourning her absence. This is the beginning of a new chapter for my husband and I, an empty nest and I am starting two new businesses, so wish us luck.

    Hopefully, I will talk to some of you soon.
