School success
Since the federal stimulus money has ended, funding our public schools has become more challenging. Yet our state legislators chose not to extend the one-cent sales tax, evidently sharing the sentiment of House Speaker Thom Tillis that more money is not the answer. To reduce the dropout rate that has been impacted by good preschool programs for at-risk children, more money is needed.
If the Florida model or a school-voucher plan (House Bill 1104) passes, won't more money be needed to make up the loss for public education?
In reference to Senate Bill 795, which proposes many sweeping changes, Senate leader Phil Berger said to go ahead and not let the naysayers say, "Wait a minute, this is not a perfect plan" ("Education plan likely too much for session," May 6).
But wait. In response to columnist John Hood, who shares similar opinions, there is research that shows tying salaries to test scores will not improve teaching or learning or attract strong teachers. It will lead to more tests and test preparation. Seehttp://parentsacrossamerica.org/performancepay/.
According to columnist Chris Fitzsimon, "Parents don't want larger classes for their kids, and they don't want teacher assistants fired, and they don't want out-of-date textbooks in their children's backpacks" ("It's not an education budget," June 2). If they want their children to be well-rounded, they also don't want their instruction in art, music, physical education and foreign languages to be affected, either. Let's see if parents let their views be heard.

Made a mistake
In reference to "New coach for East Forsyth" (June 7), was it really necessary to drag Mike Muse through the mud again? He made a mistake by losing his temper with someone spreading false rumors about him. Do you know a good person who has not lost his or her temper at some time?
Why couldn't the Journal just celebrate the fact that Muse was named head coach for East Forsyth and list his past accolades and facts about his otherwise unblemished career?

Blatant discrimination
Shame on the North Carolina Republican Party. In its recently adopted party platform, Article III, dealing with individual liberty, states that "Government should treat all citizens impartially, without regard to wealth, race, ethnicity, disability, religion, sex, political affiliation or national origin. We oppose all forms of invidious discrimination." So far so good, but then the following sentence: "Sexual orientation is not an appropriate category."
As I interpret Article III, the GOP believes that the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender) citizens of our state do not need to be treated impartially and may be discriminated against.
While this anti-gay platform plank will be applauded by the likes of the Rev. Charles Worley, the majority of fair-minded North Carolinians will find Article III of the Republican platform repugnant. I hope gubernatorial candidate Pat McCrory and other Republicans running for statewide office will disavow such blatant discriminatory intent.

Gender equality in employment
If we wish to continue our winning and envied ways as a democracy, natural human design may preclude complete gender equality in employment. Responsibility for species perpetuation continues long after conception, with women having far-reaching family duties that often jeopardize their employment freedom and availability.
In the not-too-distant past, men generally worked while women took care of the home, including solving most family problems. This dichotomy was vital to the success of our families and nation and was a strong force in forging a national culture that has served us well. Millions still migrate here to participate in this flourishing democratic model.
Today, women age 16 and above are 47 percent of the labor force, compared to 30 percent in 1950. For the 62-year period, the population percentage for women remained at 52, but the labor-force percentage jumped by 17 points. This is extremely high, considering all they must do to help keep families together. Consequences, such as decreasing family life, neglected children, rising welfare and education costs and others, are surging. Women might no longer be the strength of our nation, if they are continuously overworked and overstressed.
Of course, this is their right and choice. With our huge payouts for education, recipients ought to be able to evaluate meaningfully the impact of our current labor force on our men, women, families and nation.

Rudy...Rudy....Rudy.....where's your outrage over the discrimination against white males through 'affirmative action'? When you liberals get serious about being completely 'fair', then so will Republicans.
ReplyDeletePeople are tired of all of this preferential treatment of certain groups of people when it is expressly prohibited in the Constitution.
By the way Rudy, you're right on time with your routine liberal letter. Do you really think you are changing hearts and minds after the 'Protection of Marriage Act' passed so overwhelmingly?
Justice Department sues Florida in effort to stop Gov. Rick Scott's administration from further attempting to purge voter rolls of non-US citizens, saying effort has 'critical imperfections' that could violate civil rights
ReplyDelete_______
More outrageous, corruptive conduct by AG Holder, in an obvious attempt to assure Obama's reelection, and keep him in power. If this were a Republican Administration acting in such a manner, the liberal media would be screaming!
Sen. John Cornyn (R) from Texas calls on AG Holder to resign. This is not a person with 'fluff' credentials like Sen Barbara Boxer (D) from California, he's the former Texas Attorney General, and a former Associate Justice of the Texas Supreme Court.
DeleteAG Holder deserved a good, verbal spanking, and he got it. Now, he should be thrown out of his position.

How true, but it's so much more gratifying reading you scream about it. Mostly sunny and mild for the remainder of the week, high today mid 80's with low 80's the rest of the week.
ReplyDeleteI was riding in my car
ReplyDeleteScreaming at the night
Screaming at the dark
Screaming at fright
I wasn't doing nothing
Just drive about
Screaming at the dark
Letting it out
That's all I was doing
Just letting it out
Well along comes a motorcycle
Very much to my surprise
I said officer was I speeding
I couldn't see his eyes
He said no you weren't speeding
And he felt where his gun was hung
He said lady you were screaming
At the top of your lung
And you were
Doing it along
You were doing it alone
You were screaming in your car
In a twenty-mile zone
You were doing it alone
You were doing it alone
You were screaming
I said I'll roll up all my windows
Don't want to disturb the peace
I'm just a creature
Who is looking
For a little release
I said
And what's so wrong with screaming
Don't you do it at your games
When the quarterback
Breaks an elbow
When the boxer beats and maims
But you were
Doing it alone
You were doing it alone
You were screaming in your car
In a twenty-mile zone
You were doing it alone
You were doing it alone
You were screaming
I said animals roar
When they feel like
Why can't we do that too
Instead of screaming
Banzai baby
In the war in the human zoo
He said I got to take you in now
Follow me right behind
And let's have no more screaming
Like you're out of your mind
So he climbed aboard his cycle
And his red-eyed headlight beamed
And his motor started spinning
And his siren screamed
He was doing it alone
He was doing it alone
He was screaming on his bike
In a twenty-mile zone
He was doing it alone
He was doing it alone
He was screaming
I was doing it alone
I was doing it alone
I was screaming in my car
In a twenty-mile zone
I was doing it alone
I was doing it alone
I was screaming
We were doing it together
We were doing it together
We were screaming at the dark
In a twenty-mile zone
We were doing it together
We were doing it together
We were screaming
We were doing it together
We were doing it
Together
Alone
In a twenty-mile zone
I scream, you scream lets all screen for ice cream. Thanks Bob. Nice change of scenery.

See, I read other stuff besides FoxNews.
good thing this is like, soccer, Arthur. We only need one ball to kick around.
ReplyDeleteAn apt analogy. A soccer ball is a hollow sphere, containing only air, similar to Buck boy's head. And when you kick a soccer ball, the air inside is compressed, thus heating it, so it is full of hot air.
DeleteSo when you "kick" Buck boy's head by pointing out any of his zillions of "trivial" mistakes, the response is always the same...more hot air.
An important difference however is that no soccer ball has ever been known to spew forth a river of filth like that which comes from Buck boy's slime covered keyboard.
Good afternoon folks!
ReplyDeleteLTE 1: Whenever I hear state legislatures say they would like to fully fund all of the education programs, but the money isn't there while totally dismissing the idea of the $0.075 sales tax increase to raise the necessary funds, I have to seriously question their sincerity. The entire state legislative body needs to be replaced. The best way for parents to make their voices heard will be to vote against all state incumbents this Nov.
LTE 2: Yes, Coach Muse made a mistake, but some mistakes are more costly than others and tend to linger a lot longer. Far more serious, but if Jerry Sandusky is aquitted and decides to resume his coaching career, do you think any story of his hiring would completely leave out his arrest for child molestation?
LTE 3: Another example of how political parties are pure evil. All elections should be non-partisan. If you're not willing to work on behalf of all of your constituents, then you do not belong in an elected office.
LTE 4: "If we wish to continue our winning and envied ways as a democracy..." - lol- now, THAT'S funny! The Ozzie and Harriet days of the husband going off to work while the wife stays home with the kids may seem to be a not too distant memory for some, but in socioeconomic terms, it may as well have been the Jurassic age. For better or worse, women are in the workforce to stay. It just means that husbands have to help share the burden of "keep(ing) the families together", instead of leaving it all up to the wife. Mr. Baker may want to prepare himself for some feedback from a few women who might take umbrage at his remarks.
Jerry Sandusky acquitted? Anything's possible, but unlikely.
DeleteBesides, after the first two days of testimony, I've heard enough. And I'll bet the jury has too.
Yesterday's anal sex escapade in the 'shower' was a little more than I wanted to hear about.
I also hope they've tested that homosexual rascal for HIV too. Those people need to get treatment if he's positive, and they are too.
DeleteWhat a horror story that would be? It's already bad enough.
An interesting thing about psychopaths is that they learn to ape the mannerisms of actual people, such as pretending to be horrified by things that they actually get off on.
ReplyDeleteExcellent example above. Lap it up, baby, lap it up.
BELLEFONTE, Pa. – A third alleged victim of Jerry Sandusky testified Wednesday that the former Penn State coach threatened him, saying he would never see his family again if he told anyone that the coach had sexually assaulted him.
DeleteThe witness, 25, said he was about 11 years old when Sandusky first took him to the basement bedroom of the coach's home in State College, Pa.

You must be one sick puppy if you think anyone could be 'turned on' by such reprehensible conduct!
In testing homophobes for latent homosexuality, part of the program is hooking them up to monitors that measure their sexual arousal, then showing them homosexual pornography.
DeleteSince we already know that Buck boy is a latent, and since the Sandusky trial is nothing more than homosexual pornography, then we know that it is turning him on something fierce.
There's no "think" about it. We know all we need to about this sub-species of homo sapiens.
You're the one that's constantly defending homosexual behavior. So I don't think you're fooling anybody.

DeleteFeds drop remaining charges against Edwards.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it had nothing to do with the fact that Edwards is a Democrat...harrr harr.
"Lanny Breuer, the head of the Justice Department's criminal division, said prosecutors respect the judgment of the jury and would not bring the case to trial again."
Lanny Breuer....aren't you the same Lanny Breuer that's involved in the 'Fast and Furious' investigation?
No wonder!
Respect the jury. The jury didn't find Edwards not guilty of all charges?
DeleteI'll tell ya what. Between Lanny Breuer and AG Holder, the Justice Department is a real mess!
As to the Florida business, yet another scheme hatched up by the GOP to disqualify eligible voters, as was done in Florida in 2000.
ReplyDeleteGovernor Scott was warned by many people that his lists were outdated and inaccurate and that his scheme wouldn't work, but he is about as bright as W. Bush or Buck boy, so plowed ahead.
Now all 67 county elections supervisors, 30 of whom are Republicans, have refused to carry out his purge, so any and all lawsuits are moot, because it isn't going to happen.
The two most powerful republican supervisors in the state have both blasted Scott and his entire scheme.
One of the events that helped stop the stupidity was when a decorated WW II veteran got a letter from Scott's cronies telling him that he was not an American and could no longer vote.
As pointed out before, the GOP has gone completley insane.
OK, now the Edwards case, which Buck boy was only interested in because it involved a Democrat having sex.
ReplyDeleteWell guess what, Democrats have been having sex ever since there have been Democrats. It's a part of their DNA. And Democrats do not discriminate as to who they have sex with. I know one Democrat who thinks that saguaro cactuses are sexy. The guy who got caught humping the pumpkin was almost certainly a Democrat.
Whether Republicans have sex or not is unknown, although we have a clue in that Republicans are now third among registered voters behind the Democrats and the independents.
When the charges were initially filed against Edwards, almost every legitimate legal scholar said that it was a bad idea. As Buck boy's beloved Alan Dershowitz pointed out, the prosecutors did not have enough evidence to convict on any count. He went on the say that the prosecutors were asking the jurors to read other people's minds, which can only happen in Buck boy world.
Unfortunately, it is not against the law to be a low-life scum. If it were, we could put both Edwards and Buck boy away for life.
