Modern-day Jim Crow
The attempt to require voters to have a state-issued ID instead of the current required ID issued by the local board of elections reminds me of a modern day Jim Crow.
All registered voters are issued cards with their elected districts, name and address of the voter, etc. The number of violations is minimum and should be carefully examined before we are burdened as taxpayers with the cost of this additional state agency. Are we encouraging greater participation in our democracy with this effort? Or are we giving birth to a veiled Jim Crow attempt to discourage participation in our democracy? We need all the qualified voters to actively participate in electing accountable representatives. We need to bury Jim Crow and all his descendants.

Without jobs
Speaker of the House John Boehner's assertion that to tax the people making jobs is detrimental to the economic well-being of our country appears on its face to be odious. If his statement is true, why do we have an unemployment rate over 9 percent? Why are corporations hoarding funds instead of hiring?
The people who drive a majority of the economy are consumers. Without jobs, there won't be spending and economic growth. The economy will continue to stagnate, and the congressional leaders will continue to have delusions about why America is becoming an example of how not to restart the economy. Just saying ...

Sum It Up:
The Sum It Up question from Sunday was: Do you think the media placed too much emphasis on Casey Anthony's trial in Florida on the charge that she murdered her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee?
LTE1: Mr. El-Amin is the head of the local Democratic party, and I am sure is familiar with voting practices here and there. Does he see Jim Crow in driver's licenses, Social Security cards, passports, birth certificates; or in ID checks for cigarettes, booze, financial transactions, airline tickets, medical services, etc? Most voters have ID's that should be valid for voter ID, driver's licenses and state ID cards among them. Methinks El-Amin protesteth way too much, and screams "Racism!" way too much, as well.
ReplyDeleteLTE2: I'm not sure what the LTE writer is trying to convey. Is his implication that raising taxes will lower unemployment or increase capital investment? I'm not sure I see a tie-in there. Also, what does "Just saying" mean?
Sum It Up: Yes, we have had way too much of Casey and her dysfunctional family. I solved the problem for myself by leaving the sordid circus to Nancy and Greta and turning to the Science Channel or opening a book.
