Church relief?
In view of the terrifically hot weather we are having, would it not be good for some churches to open their lower-level auditoriums or other facilities to anyone who does not have air conditioning available to them?
I heard on TV that three hours a day in air conditioning would be enough to ward off heat strokes. Just as the homeless in winter need help, does it not seem that those same people, as well as any others who do not have air-conditioned homes, would need help in the extremely hot weather?
My thought is to invite them to come on any day the temperature is to reach a certain level, maybe 90 or above. Most churches are cool, anyway. Why not share that comfort with some others who need it?
I realize that this would make more knowledge or experience than I have to set up properly, but I am sure there are many people or agencies who know how to do something like this.
Or maybe it's a wild idea. Just thought I'd ask.

In spite of my deliberate misspelling, this is not a bad idea, on the face of it. However, there are hygiene, security, liability, and provision issues. Again, not to say it's an unworthy idea, but idealism can cost to implement. I suspect that some havens are probably available. Perhaps, the Samaritan Ministry, the Rescue Mission, and Salvation Army offer the relief recommended by the good-hearted LTE writer.
ReplyDeleteThose of us more fortunate can cheaply assist the less fortunate. Those beggars and newspaper vendors on medians at intersections would probably benefit from a cool bottle of water, picked up while refueling at the local gas-and-go.
