Good v. evil: Good wins this round
Stories like this warm the heart: from Albuquerque, we hear of a predator who kidnapped a 6-year-old girl from a playground, forcing her into his van and driving away. A neighbor spotted the crime and gave chase, calling the police from his cell phone. The degenerate kidnapper realized he was being followed, and tried to shake his pursuer by driving up a mesa. He succeeded in crashing his getaway vehicle, which belongs to his sister. The perv bailed out and ran.
I'd like to report the pursuing angel of mercy, whose name is unreported in the article I read, caught the fleeing evil-doer and administered some frontier justice, but he sensibly retrieved the girl and removed her to safety. She was unharmed. The police found the culprit soon thereafter. He is now facing kidnapping charges.
There are a lot of Latinos in NM. Latinos are very family- and child-oriented. The demographics of Albuquerque's jail probably matches that of NM in general. Some of those fellows will likewise be family- and child-oriented. There is a distinct possibility that some rough-hewn frontier justice may yet be meted out.

A friend reappears
Most, if not all of you, recall straightforward poster stonewall, who has been missing from the Readers' Forum for months. He reappeared yesterday as Firemage. I have invited him to post here (an invitation that is open to all). I hope he does.
O. T.'s O analysis
Thank you for that summary, well delivered.
Hillary had a lot of people salivating over a Clinton Restoration to the White House, but she had high negatives. Had she held on and won the Dem nomination, I do not think she would have steamrolled in November. She had very high negatives with R's, would have mobilized more anti- votes than the new and attractive Obama. Interesting, there is back chatter re her mounting a primary challenge to President Obama. It will remain back chatter. She still has high negatives, and she ain't getting any younger.
Chao ciao to Bucky
This know-it-all apologizes for the errant edit re: "chao," is deficient in espanol. I extend my apologies for the pompous and erroneous correction.
Bucky is going out of town for a few days. I pray for travelers' mercies for him and his long-suffering family, if any. Ciao chao.
Word watch
President Obama, yesterday: "Wake-up call."
Michelle Bachmann, no doubt soon: "Misspoke." This weasel word emerged from the bodyguard of lies with which the Clintons shielded themselves. It is no doubt soon to be employed by Republican loose cannon Bachmann, who explained her tardy arrival at an IA political event by saying she attended a family reunion. The question is whose family, as her mom and two cousins say she was not at their family reunion. Bachmann has dodged questions re the discrepancy on two occasions since then. If someone can corner her, no doubt she will have "misspoken."

NPR reporter this AM: "David, I just wanted to welcome you . . . " "Wanted"? Did she cease wanting at some point? Also, "just"? Just welcome, no more? How about this: "Welcome, David." I listened to someone pray recently (not at a commissioners' meeting). The heavenly supplicant used the word "just" at the start of every sentence: "Father, we just want . . ." Bless me, Father, I didn't get much out of that prayer, obviously.
Take note that I don't just single out useless filler words in my Word watch gripe.
And, yes, in addition to being a wannabe know-it-all, I'm a nitpicker. Guilty. Get the rope. In the meantime, I wish a good day for all.
Got to love Bachmann...she will provide much entertainment over the next few months.
ReplyDeleteHer family reunion thing reminds me of Rush Limbaugh's attempts to explain his absence from Viet Nam, at least six of them.
He would throw one excuse out; reporters would shoot it down; he would put out the next one. My favorite was the high school football injury.
A reporter tracked down the high school football coach, who just laughed, trying to imagine, I'm sure, that fat little coward playing on his team.
And Bachmann is not alone. Palin has already proven her mettle. And once the spotlight hits Ricky Perry, Al Gore's 1988 Texas campaign manager, much of his "job" bubble will burst and his dirty underside will rise to the surface. I've already dubbed him "Mr. Bluster"; I will have many colleagues on that account soon.
Bluster seems to be a required feature of TX pols from either party. Remember Ma Richards?
ReplyDeleteI would think Perry's serving as Gore's TX campaign manager in 1988 would be something of a liability.
Limbaugh's doc shopping cost him whatever waning credibility he had with me.
Good vs evil. You suppose the boys in the big house might make the newly arrived child napper feel welcome?
ReplyDeleteHe'll be very welcome. And they'll have nice pillow for him to bite.
