Word watch
An NPR reporter did a story this AM on the warming Arctic, using the word "formidable" at one point. She pronounced it, "for-MID-a-ble." Check the dictionary: FOR-mid-a-ble. NPR catches a fair amount of Word watch flak, not because of any dislike on my part for NPR. It is one of the few on-air/cable/satellite news sources that I attend.
Arthur's Gripe# 26
Misuse of pun v. play on words: I've heard/seen so many examples of that, I have nearly forgot what a pun is. That's not really regrettable, what with puns being the groaners that they are.
