Finish the Thought
Saturday, we asked readers to complete the sentence:
"Critics say Obama is un-American because ..."

* * * * *

"... his skin color is different from his critics and from their deep belief that 'he is not one of us.' "

BOON T. LEE

* * * * *

" 'Critics say Obama is un-American because …'? What an offensive and obviously loaded thought. Here's a good opportunity for wing-nut libel.
"What's next, 'Critics say Obama is the anti-Christ because …'? How about, 'Critics say Mitt Romney's religion is a cult because …'? Would you print that?"

JANE FREEMONT GIBSON

* * * * *

"… of the color of his skin. This reason is refuted and dare not be spoken aloud, but in my opinion it is the sole reason."

ANNE GRIFFIS WILSON

* * * * *

"You would have to ask them specifically, but I suppose it is easy to be leery of someone of mixed race who has a funny-sounding name and a life history with which few can identify.
"It cannot be based on policy disagreements, as those frequently cited, the health-care individual mandate and socialization of the Wall Street losses, were actually Republican ideas to begin with.
"It does not help that the rabid bigots (tea partiers and Donald Trump come to mind) have a ready platform in Fox News, and that no mainstream Republican of national prominence has called these idiots to account."

JAMES McGRATH

* * * * *

"… they can't stand to see a black man as president and will say and do anything to delegitimize his presidency."

RUDY DIAMOND

* * * * *

"… Fox News political pundits told them to believe it, and they do without any hesitation, or without any further fact-checking."

DENNIS WINNICKI

* * * * *

"… they have no life, and nothing better to do."

WILLIAM SAMS

* * * * *

"Critics say, and rightfully so, the president is un-American because of his actions and occasional slips of the tongue, which give us insight into his philosophy.
"Being un-American does not mean being anti-American. He has an image of America, regardless of the source, that is the antithesis of the capitalistic system we have. He is not a socialist per se, but he believes in a socialistic approach to government, akin to the European model.
"The people have a chance to choose between two competing philosophies in November. I for one disagree with his vision and I hope the economic issues in Europe will convince his supporters that the model he admires does not work."

KEN HOGLUND

* * * * *

"... they see all that he's done to destroy it."

STANLEY G. SIMM

* * * * *

"… he has pushed the United States toward being a fiscal Leviathan State where the government absorbs more of our wealth and decreases our productive capability."

BRAD CRAIG

* * * * *

"… they are Republicans, conservatives and bigots who just want him out of office at any cost to our country."

DAVID HOSTETLER

* * * * *

"Obama said in 2008 that President Bush adding $4 trillion in debt in eight years was irresponsible and 'unpatriotic.' Then after getting elected, he has added $5 trillion in less than four years. He is un-American by his own definition."

ANTHONY FLETCHER

* * * * *

"… he is so far left, Fidel Castro would not even want to associate with him."

FRANK SCISM

* * * * *

"… of nothing related to reality."

CHARLES FRANCIS WILSON

    1. Obama is un-American because he is changing the economic principles that made this country great. That is: Hard work leads to rewards, and even harder work leads to even higher rewards.
      _________

      Obama is probably one of our most likeable presidents. He's the kind of guy that you would like to hang out with, shoot some hoops with, and drink a beer with.

      However, he's the same kind of guy that if asked if he would make a good president? One would say: Are you kidding? A president of the United States? No Way!

      Nobody likes to admit that they've made a mistake. You can see that in this forum by all of the ridiculous comments by some of the liberal members that are just plain wrong, yet they never get corrected or retracted.

      I had to come to grips with the fact that I voted for a bad (wrong) president some years ago. At least I had the good sense to correct my mistake, and I voted for a different person the second time around, and the country got back on track.

      Let's hope some Americans do the same in November.

  3. "Critics say Obama is un-American because ..." What an odd question. After three and a half years, America has him pegged pretty well. Besides, Kenyans swear up and down now a days that he sure ain't one of them.

  4. Good afternoon folks!
    Finish the thought: I agree with Ms. Gibson that asking this sort of question only provides an excuse for TB's to rant about the other side. I would say the "un-American" vent is due to a combination of Obama's skin color, name, and his father's background as a Muslim from Kenya. If one wants to argue Obama's policies make him "un-American", then you'll have to say GWB is also "un-American" because aside from ACA, Obama's policies have been an extension of GWB's.

    1. Oh Please! Bush knew a badend when he saw one.

      Plus, he didn't 'de facto' legalize over 1 million people that broke the law by coming here illegally.

  5. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, asked Thursday about Obama's remarks on gun control the night before, said the Senate's packed schedule precludes any action on firearms legislation. Asked if the Senate might debate the issue next year, Reid said, "Nice try."

    Yeppers! The Dems don't want to touch this one right before the election. There are a 'lot' of Democrats that own guns.

    Most Democrats are 'fools', but some are not complete 'fools'.

  6. Intolerant liberals in Chicago attack owner of Chick-fil-a over position on gay marriage.
    ____________

    As Chicago became the latest city to tell Chick-fil-A it isn't welcome because its president doesn't support gay marriage, legal experts said the communities don't have a drumstick to stand on.

    Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel became the second big-city mayor to blast the company over president Dan Cathy's comment last week that he is “guilty as charged” for supporting the traditional definition of marriage.

    2. Cleverly cut and pasted from FoxLies®.

      The mayors of Boston and Chicago are idiots...they cannot and should not try to ban some stupid company from their cities.

      But the biggest idiot of all is Dan Cathy...only a true dunce would imperil his business by making such a stupid announcement...his fast food junk will now get boycotted by a lot of potential customers, who have an absolute right to do so.

      I've been boycotting them and other fast fooders for years just because their "food" only faintly resembles real food.

      Gobble it up, Dunce.

    3. "But the biggest idiot of all is Dan Cathy..."
      Isn't that the truth. If you own a niche company that caters to a very select core of customers who all hold essentially the same views, then you can get away with taking a stand on controversial topics. When you own or run a nationwide chain of retail stores or restaurants that caters to everyone from every walk of life, why on earth would you take a stand on a hot topic like this or abortion or politics that you know very well is going to alienate a large portion of your customers? That's just flat out dumb.

    5. Fox lies....or so the liberals say. But it's the only channel where you can get at least 'some' information on certain stories.

      Anytime Obama screws-up (which is quite often), CNN just ignores the story.

      FoxNews' ratings are far higher than other cable news channels. Why do you think liberals are coming on FoxNews? Even the 'Weiner' used to come on FoxNews. Who I miss quite a bit, I might add.

      He should change his first name to 'Dick'. It would make it easier for all of us.

      Never put it past people like Cathy to crank the stupid dial up to 11. I actually like Chick-Fil-A chicken, but I refuse to eat there anymore. I won't patronize a business that openly promotes bigotry like that. I'll leave it to lowlifes like Bucky.

    8. Bigotry? Looks like the bigotry is coming from the other side, don't you think?

      Trying to force a business out of a city because of the president's beliefs?

    10. And another thing, why did Mayor Bloomberg allow gays to run around in the streets of NYC with their 'packages' flapping around during the gay pride parade? That was just indecent, and offensive to most people.

      Is the new gay agenda to offend as many people as possible?

  7. “Chick-fil-A values are not Chicago values,” Emanuel said in a statement to Fox News, saying the comments “disrespect our fellow neighbors and residents.”

    2. As always, the Dunce is...well...a dunce.

      Like most Americans these days, President Obama "came from" many different places: born in Hawaii, grew up in Indonesia, attended college in California, New York and Massachusetts, worked in and became a US Senator from Illinois, and now resides in the White House, Washington, DC as the President of all the American people...a classic American story.

      There are over 200 nations in the world and there are productive American citizens whose families originated in every one of them.

      On the other hand there are "people", white, Anglo-Saxon protestants and American by accident of birth, who are worthless to their nation and their communities because they sit on their stupid asses and complain about meaningless bullshit.

      Wonder where Dunce fits in.

  9. Dan Cathy has an incredible "braggart" webpage where he tells you all about what a great guy he is. For instance:

    Regardless of my title, I actually work in Customer Service - and with more than 1,500 Chick-fil-A restaurants led by more than 60,000 team members, operators and corporate staff, I've got a lot of customers to serve!

    Maybe Danny boy needs to attend a customer service school, where the first thing he would learn would be that the customer is always right…even the gay ones. And maybe he ought to be thinking about those 60,000 "team members", quite a few of whom are, I'm sure, gay, who make it possible for him to live a life of obscene wealth, while also depending upon the company for their livelihood.

    Here's another one of his brags:

    A member. I serve on the board and am a member of some amazing organizations and institutions, including: Board of Trustees, Morehouse College; Board of Trustees, Berry College; Board of Councilors of The Carter Center...

    Really…that Carter Center, the one that "is guided by a fundamental commitment to human rights and the alleviation of human suffering; it seeks to prevent and resolve conflicts, …"

    Seems that Danny boy may be a little out of step with the values of the Carter Center, as well as the two excellent colleges mentioned…does he not realize that as a board member of any organization, part of his role is being a public advocate for that organization?

    I foresee a resume change on the horizon.

    He does help me out in one area…I have long said that just about anybody can get rich in America by accidentally stumbling on the right product in the right time and in the right place, which is the story of Chick-fil-a.

    Let's see how well he does now that he has brought hard times upon himself.

    Read the rest of his shameless braggadocio here:
