Sum It Up
The Sum It Up question from Sunday was: Are you satisfied with President Obama's handling of foreign policy?
I am quite satisfied with President Obama's foreign policy. He has shown a mature, measured approach to volatile situations, as well as raising our image where the prior administration had shown poor judgment toward our strongest allies in Europe. I am grateful that we have not rushed into another “Iraq” based on inconclusive evidence, costing our country billions of dollars and, worst of all, thousands of precious lives.
ROBYN MIXON
Generally speaking, there is not a Republican foreign policy or a Democratic foreign policy. There is only the American foreign policy. Nevertheless, the Obama administration uses military might more judiciously and is more focused on al-Qaida. The administration also shows more sensitivity toward other nations and thus regains the respect of the world and enhances America’s position as a leading world power. Narrowly speaking, the current protest against the anti-Muslim film across the Islamic countries has no direct link to American foreign policy. It is a religious uproar that could happen regardless which party is in the White House.
BOON T. LEE
Hmm. I'm not sure. Are the people who killed our ambassador the same people President Obama gave U.S. air cover without the approval of Congress?
SMITH M. HAGAMAN
Absolutely yes! We are out of Iraq, we are getting out of Afghanistan, bin Laden and many of his operatives are dead, we are not at war with Iran.
The president is criticized for dealing diplomatically with other countries, but that is smart, not weak. Do we want another war or do we want a president who is tough but diplomatic?
It is easy enough as a candidate to say what you would do, but when the lives and well being of the American people are your responsibility, it is wise to aim long and hard before you shoot. At least, that is what we would hope for in a president.
CYNTHIA GOUGH NANCE
Yes, he's doing the best he can, with what he has to work with, especially trying to avoid war with Iran, which Romney seems to want.
WILLIAM SAMS
The president's foreign policy is clearly working. Many more radical Islamists are feeling good about themselves now.
DEB PHILLIPS
Have you been reading the newspapers and watching TV? We are being attacked and killed all over the world. It seems that everybody hates us. Now, this is not good foreign policy.
ROBERT VERDINEK
He has no foreign policy. In fact he has no policy, period!
DONALD R. CREWS
Very much so. At least he thinks before he speaks, opposed to the goof-ups of Mitt Romney saying that Russia is our number one geopolitical foe, or misquoting the president on the embassy attack, never mind the facts.
Either they don't have a clue about foreign policy or they have Sarah Palin for their advisor.
NAOMI J. DAVIS
President Obama has handled foreign policy for this country very well. People like Sen. John McCain and Mitt Romney are quick to criticize ,but I have not heard them put out specific ways of how they would do things better.
The world is in turmoil and after the Arab Spring, many countries in the Middle East are evolving to new governments. So caution is the best option for now. Walking softly and carrying a big stick should pay off in the long haul, which is what President Obama is doing.
THOMAS W. MURRAY
No. All that remains now is hope and change in a successor.
LLOYD V. EVANS II
Generally, yes. Obama is a Jeffersonian/Wilsonian trying to manage foreign policy with the lowest risks possible, typical of the large strategies of George Kennan's Cold War idea of containment and the Monroe Doctrine. The Jeffersonian response often strikes people as too passive, hence the criticism from the far right, but after several decades of the Jacksonian approach, we need restraint to prevent what historian Paul Kennedy calls “imperial overstretch” by ensuring that America's foreign-policy ends are proportionate to its means.
KAM BENFIELD
I fully agree with President Obama's foreign policy. He recognizes the strength of diplomacy. He also recognizes that acting like an arrogant bully evokes hatred and resentment, not respect and trust.
J.G. WRIGHT
No. Uh … does he have a foreign policy?

“I don’t believe any legitimate voter that actually wants to exercise that right and takes on the according responsibility that goes with that right to secure their photo ID will be disenfranchised,” PA State Representative Metcalfe said on KDKA Radio in Pittsburgh. “As Romney said, 47 percent of the people that are living off the public dole, living off their neighbors’ hard work, and we have a lot of people out there that are too lazy to get up and get out there and get the ID they need. If individuals are too lazy, the state can’t fix that.”
ReplyDeletePoor ole disabled Grandma just too damn lazy to wheel herself 5 miles down to the DMV to wait 4 hours to get a Voter ID. Who cares?
Took an 88 year old to DMV, and it took about 10 minutes to get it, and it was also free because of her age.
DeleteMore liberal nonsense.
The bottom line is Democrats want the corruption to continue in our electoral process so their people will get elected.
Because our country is being 'flooded' with undocumented people with the encouragement of Obama's policies, we have no choice but to require I.D.
DeleteAt the rate we're going, we'll have Muslim countries deciding our elections.
Thanks Obama.
What documents did the 88 year old take with her?
DeleteThe proper ones in order to get an I.D.
DeleteWhich would be?
DeleteWhat's truly outrageous is that Democrats are using the 'Justice' Department to perpetuate the corruption.
DeleteUnbelievable!
In earlier, more moral times, Holder would be indicted, and thrown in jail.
DeleteWe don't have voter ID in NC. In PA getting that free ID has turned out not to be so easy for many.
DeleteIf Holder weren't African American, there would be screams to get him out there.
DeleteCapitol Hill hearing on 'Fast and Furious', again focused in on the White House and Holder. The IG even said he couldn't get documents from the White House.
So, in all probability, there are many, many documents between the president and Holder on the matter.
If Obama is reelected, this will surely go into his next term.
Hint: When Holder starts squinting his eyes, he is getting ready to lie.
The Challenge of Obtaining Voter Identification
DeleteWhat documents did she take?
DeleteThe proper ones...
DeleteJust what I expected...whenever Dunce cannot find any facts to back up his ridiculous "ideas", he makes up a "personal" experience, like taking some old lady to the license office, or his trips to Chick-fil-A or his "friends" who were going to vote for Obama but now have decided not to, or some other BS stuff.
DeleteTwo things...we can always tell that they are lies, and Dunce's personal experience means nothing anyway.
Rush, just because I don't answer your silly questions, doesn't mean I'm lying. Maybe in your perverse world it does, but not in most people's.
DeleteYou're such a dope Rush.
You carry the liberal banner well Rush. Hee Hee...keep up the GOOD work.
Why don't you scoop up that sorry liberal buttocks of yours, and take it out for run?
DeleteI just got back from mine.
Didn't we just do this question the other day?
ReplyDelete"The situation is hopeless but not serious."
Sounds about right to me.
DeleteIf it gets any worse, we might have to start thinking about doing something about it sometime.
DeleteReminds me of the Marine unit in Korea. They were surrounded by Chinese troops. Regiment called down and asked if they needed any help.
"No thanks," the captain replied. "We've gottem cornered sir."
Got to love Mr. Verdinek's comment:
ReplyDelete"We are being attacked and killed all over the world."
At first I thought that was wrong, but then I checked the Dunce News Service: so far there have been demonstrations at our embassies in 307 countries. 55 ambassadors have been killed and another 51 have been kidnapped. And the Hope diamond is missing.
I say "Call out the militia."
Good AM, folks!
ReplyDelete"Narrowly speaking, the current protest against the anti-Muslim film across the Islamic countries has no direct link to American foreign policy." --Boon T. Lee
Mr. Lee has retreated from reasonable commentary to parrotting a line that even the WH has more or less given up. Let's see, I believe support of Israel, bumping off Bin Laden, and drone strikes here and there constitute foreign policy. Mind you, I agree with all of those, but Lee's statement is fatuously sychophantic.
And all those rioting Muslims dramatically disagree with those policies, as amply demonstrated. That stoopid video was simply a spark for the demonstrations, which have been used by AQ for their murderous mayhem.
Agreed. And I have no doubt that the film maker knew exactly what he was doing. There are radical Muslims, Jews, and Christians who would like nothing more than to start and all out war in the Middle East. Yes, the Muslims are a bit more radicalized these days, but if America had been occupied, bombed and had it's boundaries redrawn after WWII to suit colonial needs, the citizens of this nation would most likely be more radicalized too.
DeleteI hear you, Bob, but we didn't do the colonizing, and the big colonizers get serve variously as a financial hub for oil money or vendor of Mirage fighters, so the radicalization seems to be narrowly focused.
ReplyDeleteThe U.S. did play an important role in the Treaty of Paris after WWI which effectively divided the middle east by the Western powers. No, we didn't colonize, but I imagine in the eyes of the eastern Muslim world, we do represent the Western Christian world. We do have bases there and our Military Industrial Complex has armed the middle east, nearly all the middle east. I can only imagine that a good number of middle eastern people are as tired of western government influence in their lives as a good number of our own people are tired of western government influence in their lives.
DeleteGood afternoon folks!
ReplyDeleteSum it up: Well, let's see...OBL is dead; al Qaida has been decimated by drone strikes; we're out of Iraq; Afghanistan is winding down; there was a dramatic turnover of govts in the ME that saw the fall of long running dictators without the whole region blowing up; Iran's drive towards nuclear power has been slowed by "mysterious" code viruses and deaths to key nuclear scientists; relations with Israel could be better; good relations with Russia and China: on the whole, I'd say Obama's foreign policies have been quite adequate. Sure, there's a firestorm currently brewing in the ME over the stupid Islamic film, but that just goes to show every country, including our's has idiots it can't always keep under control. As usual, Mr. Benfield wins the Dotnet Some Kind Of Post Award for top post for his most excellent analysis.

__________
I'd say Obama's foreign policies are getting us into big trouble a la Carter of the late 70s.
If you couple Obama's foreign policies together with his economic policies, he's getting down there among the worst presidents in history.
I don't suppose you'd care to explain exactly how the President's policies are getting us into big trouble, would you?
DeleteUh huh, didn't think so.
Why don't you explain how Obama's economic and foreign policies are having a positive effect on America? No, never mind, I've read enough of your garbage.
Delete"I want you to acknowledge that you did not keep your promise," co-host Jorge Ramos said in Spanish, noting that the president didn't deliver on his 2008 campaign pledge to push immigration reform during the first year of his term."
ReplyDeleteCNN
__________
Jorge, just throw that into the pile of broken promises made by Obama.
But look on the bright side (yours, not America's), you got him to essentially give amnesty to a bunch of illegal immigrants that will, no doubt, create more illegal immigration in the future.
Thanks alot Obama. Geez!

On by the way, the article is translated into 'Arabic' in case you want it. See the highlighted area below the video.
Oh Geeez!
After recent events, I guess CNN is getting ready for some 'new' people to be running things, soon.
DeleteThere was some pretty intelligent stuff being said here, then Dunce finished his .5 mile run and the drivel started to flow.
ReplyDeleteDunce and Paris Hilton go together like a horse and carriage. Combined IQ, 3.147.
Rush, I'm trying to encourage you to get that fat, flabby, liberal buttocks in shape. A '5' mile run would be a bit much for you to start out with. But, just see if you can run down to where you buy your pot at for starters.
DeleteTaxmageddon set to hit Americans in 100 days.
ReplyDeleteWhat is Obama doing to stop it? Nothing, he loves taxes.
Check out the types of taxes that are set to hit, if you dare.
http://www.atr.org/days-taxmageddon-a7203
Romney 'only' pays 14% in taxes in 2011, a measely $1.9 million, but he gave over $4 million to charities.
ReplyDeleteOf course, you won't see that last part in the headlines.
Of course, even MSNBC reported that he gave $4 million to charities. He only took a 2.5 million charitable deduction which kept his taxes at just above 14% instead of 9%. He can amend his tax returns after the election and get that back though. This means that he paid more than legally required which by his own words disqualifies him to be president. I'm so glad you brought that up.
DeletePhargo, we have to give the Dunce a little credit...imagine taking on the job of defending a creep like Mitty...somebody's got to do it.
DeleteAnd we can be sure that the Mitt will amend those tax returns on Wednesday, November 7, 2012. Then he can afford to buy poor Annie a new horse and replace that tacky $25,000 jet ski from this summer's photo op with a much better one.
You are without question one of the stupidest people in the world.
ReplyDeleteThe average taxpayer made $49,000 last year and paid 24% of that in taxes, gave $1,200 to charity and was left with $36,000 to pay all living expenses.
Your effing hero, after paying a much lower rate in taxes and giving some money away, was left with $7.85 million to live on. Tough life.
The filhy rich, and I mean filthy in every way, thank you for making their excuses for them so they can spend all their time skiing or something.
I'm not envious of other people, Rush, like you are. I've got my health, and I can run five (5) miles a day. I'm quite happy.
DeleteWhy don't you take my suggestion Rush? Scoop up that large fatty deposit you're sitting on, and go for a run. You'll look and feel better, if you do.
When most of us say that we've given money to charity, we are thinking about helping someone less fortunate than us, not about the fat cat Mormon Church.
DeleteAnother stupid statement from Mitty's blabfest in Boca Raton:
ReplyDelete"95 percent of life is set up for you if you're born in this country."
Easy to say for a white boy born with a silver spoon in his mouth whose parents paid for him to attend an exclusive prep school, Harvard, a 30 month vacation in France, and bought him his first house. No wonder he's so out of touch.
And poor little Annie, who loves to tell sob stories about having to live in a basement apartment and all the hardships that she endured while Mitty's folks were supporting them in grad school... well, she was crying today about how mean old Republicans were talking about her own true meal ticket...I mean love: "Stop it. This is hard. You want to try it? Get in the ring," she screamed.
Poor little thing...after never having a hard moment in her life, she has discovered that her husband is a blabbermouth fool and when you make stupid statements people notice them and might have something to say about them.
Go buy another horse, Annie.
Rush, Obama went to an exclusive prep schools in Jakarta too. And he went onto Columbia University and Harvard. Excuse me if I don't get out the tissues.
DeleteTrue, but he did it with scholarships won by brain power, not Daddy's endless wealth.
Delete"When most of us say that we've given money to charity, we are thinking about helping someone less fortunate than us, not about the fat cat Mormon Church."
ReplyDeleteThey have a damgood choir at the church in Salt Lake City.
Yes they do, and you can see them live for only $64 (the cheap seats), just about every week somewhere.
DeleteThey ought to be damgood with a multi-million dollar annual budget. I know you sing in the choir at your church...what is your choir's budget?
The LDS Church is a vast business enterprise which takes advantage of its tax free status as a religious organization to compete in many areas with civilian owned businesses.
This spring, the church opened the huge Cross Creek mall right across the street from the tabernacle in Salt Lake City. The facility, which has a retractable glass roof, cost over $2 billion to build, but is a low risk investment because under existing state and federal law the church will pay no taxes on the rent from over 100 businesses there.
The church owns over one million acres of commercial property in the US, ranging from agricultural and real estate businesses to hunting preserves to the largest nut company in the US and the number one tourist attraction in Hawaii, the Polynesian Cultural Center on Oahu (adult admission, $49.95/day).
When Mitt Romney was running Bain Capital, he and other Mormons there gave the church millions of dollars of stock in companies that they were "leveraging". Romney and friends, of course, took tax write-offs for their contributions; the church then sold the stocks but did not have to pay capital gains tax on the 100% profit.
The church is extremely secretive about its finances. One long serving faculty member at Brigham Young University was excommunicated for publishing information about the church. Estimates of the churches total holdings exceed $40 billion, with an annual income of $5-8 billion.
BTW, the current president of the church, Thomas Monson, is a "living prophet".
It's Romney's money. Why can't he give it to the church of his choice?
DeleteMormons may not have the best reputations in the world, but who does? Certainly not you Rush.
Church? More like Mormons, Inc.
DeleteI have no idea what our choir budget is, but since we don't sell tickets, I surmise that it is several orders of magnitude lower than the Tabernacle Choir.
ReplyDeleteI was unaware of how much dough there is in Mormonism. I guess they save a lot by eschewing booze and coffee.
With martinis going for $9 a pop at Tates and Deviant Dale's imperial IPA at over $10/four-pack at City Beverage and a large latte for $4.27 at Camnino Bakery, that would make a considerable saving.
DeleteBut a dreary life.
DeleteYep.

Cathy, of Chick-fil-A, is standing by his position on traditional marriage. *Just reported by Huckabee on FoxNews.
ReplyDeleteThe business never was 'anti gay', as the liberal media tried to protray it, it was PRO traditional marriage!
The liberal media is just like Rush. If the facts don't come out like it wants them. It'll manipulate them so that they do.
Actually, the company was giving millions of dollars to foaming at the mouth anti-gay organizations, which is about as anti-gay as you can get.
DeleteThe agreement reached with the Chicago city councilman requires them to stop that.
The agreement does not require Chick-fil-A president Cathy to stop being a bigoted fool.
Nor does it require the Dunce to stop being King of the Dunces.
How does it go from pro traditional marriage, and not in favor of gay marriage, to 'anti gay'?
DeleteJust put a liberal in charge of the story.
It's all the same thing, boy. It's all about hate, your specialty.
DeleteHuckabee said he talked directly to Cathy, and there is no, I repeat no agreement with that liberal fool from Chicago.
DeleteYou're the one making bigoted comments toward the Mormon Church, Rush. You forget, I actually read your nonsense.
DeleteAs always, you have a basic misunderstanding of the word "bigot", which consists of characterizing all members of a group in some sort of negative way...as you are so fond of doing with gays, blacks, women, etc.
DeleteStating the truth about the nefarious practices of the Mormon Church does not qualify...it is simply the truth, something that you have little acquaintance with. In fact, all money taken in by local LDS churches is forwarded to the world headquarters and is controlled by them for their various business enterprises. Less than 1% of that money goes to charitable uses.
As to Huckabee's statement, you might want to look at a more detailed account of what is going on from a significantly more reliable source than Mike Huckabee.
Chick-fil-A Playing a Dangerous Game
When a company finds itself in controversial waters, any competent PR person can tell you that the most important thing to do is to get it over with as quickly as possible.
Chick-fil-A is already hurting nationally. By lying and deceiving the public on what is really going on, they are playing a stupid game that can only hurt them in the long run. There are far more people in America who believe in fairness for all than there are of you and your bigotry.
Ideology has no place in business. But an ideolog like you would never understand that in a million years.
