Hard-right takeover
The political conventions have ended and the time to vote draws near. I am a 90-year-old lady and cannot remember a more contentious election. Most of my life I have been a dedicated Republican. I have worked for the Republican Party in various capacities.
The Republican Party has been taken over by the hard right. Sen. Mitch McConnell clearly stated that the Republicans' number-one goal is to make President Obama a one-term president. It isn't to help the country, it is to defeat Obama.
The Republican Party has become so filled with hate there is no room for cooperation or compromise. They hate African-Americans, immigrants, gays. They hate their fellow man. Republicans believe women should be subservient to men. If you are not wealthy, it is because you are too stupid or too lazy.
As far back as I can remember, at this time in the election process both parties urged people to register and vote. Hate-filled Republicans are trying to keep anyone who disagrees with them from voting.
Rep. Virginia Foxx spews their hatred. Sen. Richard Burr is an empty suit.
Defeat these hate-filled people. If Mitt Romney's tax returns were made public, there is no doubt that information in them would blow him right out of the water.
I did not leave the Republican Party, it left me.

Facts
Fact: President Obama was inaugurated Jan. 20, 2009.
Fact: On Jan. 20, 2009, the economy was losing around 800,000 jobs a month. On Sept. 12, 2012, the economy is adding around 100,000 jobs a month. This is not enough, but much better than when the president took office.
Fact: On Jan. 20, 2009, the stock market closed at 7,949. On Sept. 12, 2012, the stock market was at 13,351.
Fact: On Jan. 20, 2009, General Motors was gasping for its last breath. Today, GM is thriving.
Fact: On Jan. 20, 2009, Osama Bin Laden was alive. Today he is dead.
Fact: On Jan. 20, 2009, you could not get health insurance if you had a pre-existing condition. Today you can.
Fact: On Jan. 20, 2009, if you had a catastrophic lifetime illness, your insurance coverage could be capped. Today it cannot.
Fact: On Jan. 20, 2009, a child could no longer be on his parent's health insurance once he turned 19. Today the child can remain on his parent's policy until he turns 26 even if he or she is married.
Fact: On Jan. 20, 2009, our gay and lesbian service personnel had to hide their sexual preference for fear of being dismissed from the armed forces. Today these brave men and women do not have to live in secret.
Fact: On Jan. 20, 2009, we were still at war with Iraq. Today we are not.
Our country is definitely better off since President Obama took office.

Let's be fair
I am a proponent of fairness. It is for this reason that I oppose the plan to build a stadium for R.J. Reynolds High School in any location. I see at least two problems if the stadium is allowed to be built.
Parkland High School serves a demographically less affluent community than does Reynolds. Immediately upon approval of a stadium plan, a message is sent to the Parkland community, especially the students and their parents, "We're sorry that your parents can't raise millions of dollars to buy you a stadium, but you'll just have to make do."
The second problem concerns budget fairness. Once a stadium is built and gifted to the school system, I cannot imagine much enthusiasm from the Reynolds stadium supporters in raising money for its long-term maintenance and upkeep. In a time of ever-tighter funding for education, even the small amount of additional money required for this purpose creates more strain. How fair is it to ask the taxpayers of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County to take on even this small additional burden?

Better off
In the 2012 election campaign, the Republicans have been asking if we are better off today than we were four years ago. Here are some groups they could survey:
The 4.5 million people who have gotten jobs in the last 30 months; the people who have 401(k)s and stock-market investments who have seen the Dow Jones Industrial Average go up from 6,500 to 13,000; the men and women in our military who were in harm's way in Iraq; the 1.4 million workers in the auto industry who were in danger of losing their jobs four years ago; and all the women who are now protected against pay discrimination under the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act.
In the 2010 election, the Republicans ran for office talking about jobs. After the election they talked about abortion and obstructing President Obama's legislative initiatives. What will they talk about this time?

Ms. Allen's letter won't reach those that it needs to reach because they won't identify with it. She's preaching to the choir. In fact, because of her strongly worded letter, she'll likely be labeled a Liberal (as if that were a bad thing?), and I can even name those prolific respondents who'll do the labeling.
ReplyDeleteWould someone please post the text of President Obama's apology to the embassy attackers? That's what I thought. Of course we have a middle east policy. Our soldiers are out of Iraq. Osama bin Laden is dead, air craft carriers around the Persian Gulf and the Straights of Hormuz (I believe we should surround the Straights of Homophobia too), the economic sanctions have Iran in a strangle hold, want war with Iran?, who's gonna pay for it?, have a 401K? it's better off than it was 4 years ago, gas hit 4.40/gallon in 2008, that's better of and much less than the right wing prediction of gloom $5+/gallon, losing 750,000 jobs a month, gaining jobs for 30 continuous months, that's better off, out of Iraq, ask the families of those soldiers if they feel better off, I could go on and on, but I'll spare you for the moment. As bad as the right wing claims every thing is and Mitt is still losing. And if he hasn't already lost, then he did yesterday with that sneak preview of what the real Mitt thinks. Disgraceful.

"Strategic bombing" has a very special definition. Please tell us what that means.
I guess Dunce is unaware that a CSA incorporates all SMSAs in the area, so is the largest possible number. You said it was 30 million. What is the actual CSA of New York City?
I will continue to repost these questions until someone provides an adequate answer, which means that cop outs will not do.

WW, best wishes on your new permanent crown. Sorry for bringing the issue up.
I wonder if Romney has seasoned that foot of his that he seems to like to dine upon. His 47% comment was surpassingly stupid. Mind you, there is an effort by cynical "activists" to foster an undue sense of victimhood, but that sense is not shared by anything like 47% of the populace. Also, those folks do pay taxes of one sort or another. Romney ignored folks of his ilk, also, who have their own share of tax breaks and entitlements. Very bad politicking.
All I can say is you'll be whining like a little baby if Iran gets 'the' bomb, and then detonates one in the U.S.
DeleteTelling the truth is never stupid. That's what liberals want you believe when it runs contrary to their politically correct views.
DeleteI agree, telling the truth is important...as in this little snippet of bullshit:
Delete"Nuclear fall-out would spread for hundreds and hundreds of miles, which could possibly affect the entire east coast. Killing 30 million would not be impossible."
Here is the truth:
A portable nuclear device would have a yield of less than 3 kilotons. The immediate blast in a city like New York would kill about 20,000 people, and injure about the same number.
Assuming a normal wind of 15 mph, the fallout package, a few hundred feet wide, would extend down range for several miles. Depending upon length of exposure to the fallout, anywhere from 1,000 to 20,000 people might die from fallout.
As frequently pointed out, the greatest threat to the USA comes not from China or Iran but from the vast ignorance of American citizens such as the Dunce.
There you go Rush. I knew you could do it. It's your daily, dummy double. Nobody knows 'exactly' how many people a portable nuclear device would kill if detonated.
DeleteI stand by my estimate that 30 million 'could' be killed, however.
You're always good for at least 'one' GOOD boobish statement a day.
The likelihood of 30 million being killed by a portable nuclear weapon is about the same as the odds of getting a portable nuclear weapon developed in the ME then transferred undetected into the US in the first place...essentially zero.
DeleteNot only do they pay taxes, those who receive a paycheck also contribute to the nation's coffers every payday when a portion of their check is sent to the govt to be used as an interest free loan.
DeleteDrug traffickers smuggle tons of cocaine into to the U.S. every year, so your top statement is ludicrious.
DeleteDon't get on the Rush, dummy bandwagon dotnet. You're smarter than that.
It's the principle of the statistics that are bothersome dotnet. We don't want a bunch of liberal losers sucking off the government, being unproductive, while only a small percentage of our citizens work. Capace?
DeleteFor all you rich people haters out there. That need to be 'taxed' more. There was a little poor boy named Richard Childress that grew up in Davidson County not far away. He worked his way up the ladder of economic success. He's now in the 1% of income earners in America. If you've ever met Richard Childress, you'd know that he's hardly somebody you'd want to hate.
Like I said, the greatest threat is the vast ignorance of most citizens.
DeleteMy information comes from detailed military studies of small nuclear devices, Dunce's comes from the empty space in his head.
As to Richard Childress, he did not grow up "poor". Through a lucky break, financed by the RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company, Childress became a NASCAR team owner. Through another lucky break, he ended up with Dale Earnhardt as his principle driver. It was Dale's driving, not Richard's business sense, that made him rich.
As to how nice a guy he is, maybe you ought to ask some of the wine growers in this area how he treats them.
I've seen both of his former houses, before he made it. If he wasn't poor, he was damn close.
DeleteIf not knowing much describes ignorance, you must have invented the word, Rush.
1) What's "ludicrious"(sp) is comparing bags of coke to a thermonuclear device when it comes to transportation as well as hiding.
Delete2) To say all those who "don't pay fed taxes" are "unproductive" and don't work is totally absurd. I worked my way through my various degrees at a Pizza Hut where I stood on my feet working my tail off for 10 - 16 hours at a time. Yes, I got everything back when I filed my income taxes, but did I do a fraction of the work of the franchise owner who made millions (and presumably paid millions in taxes) and owned a Lear jet? Those "47% unproductive" people are (or were when they were employed) actually the hardest workers you will find who live paycheck to paycheck so the owners, like my franchise owner, can rake in millions and buy Lear jets and other toys. Of course, a large portion of that 47% are retired folks who put in their 40 years to build the groundwork for the economy that exists today. So save the "47% unproductive" BS for the true believing robots whose entire thought process is downloaded into their brains from talk radio BSers.
dotnet (1)....come on man! I know you're stuck in an office all day, but think about what you're saying.

DeleteThere have been protests in about 20 countries, not the made up number of 33 reported by the Dunce from his crackpot sources.
DeleteThey will have zero effect on the election...but as mentioned below by Stab, Romney's foot in mouth disease may have already cost him the election.

ReplyDeleteLTE 1: There's definitely a hard core ideologically pure element in the R party that rejects any deviance from the orthodoxy. Their influence was clearly seen at the primaries where distinguished, long serving R senators and reps were defeated by unknowns for the great sin of either working with the D's on some issue or not abiding faithfully to the orthodoxy on every single issue. Based on Romney's record as Gov of MA, I really don't see much difference between him and Obama, but Romney's choice of Ryan shows that at the national level Romney is quite cognizant that he is at the mercy of the TB's who run the party. One only has the read the comments of these TB's to see how true Ms. Allen's words are.
LTE 2: The GM statement could have been reworded to show its losses at the time vs. its profits today instead of "gasping for a last breath" and "thriving" which are closer to opinion, but there's no doubt the rest of the statements are verifiable facts.

DeleteStrange.....most people I know are worse off.
DeleteThat certainly doesn't surprise me.
Delete5 years ago, I moved back from AZ where the RE bubble was coming apart at the seams, so I knew the market was in for a tough go (although I had no idea how badly tough that go would be). Today, the 2 biggest concerns I see are Europe and the stupidity of Congress. There's usually a pop around POTUS election time as the uncertainty of who will be elected goes away, however, it will definitely be short lived this time if Congress can't get its act together in time to avoid the auto-spending cuts and expiration of Bush's tax cuts. The bulk of my portfolio is in retirement mutual fund accounts which I generally leave alone. I still have my CGM Focus fund which I move money in and out of as well as an mReit which yields 14%. I do think about purchasing some S&P puts to hedge against Congressional stupidity from time to time. Most economic forecasts I've seen points to a solid recovery over the next 4 years IF (granted big if) Europe can remain somewhat stable, the ME can remain somewhat stable, and Congress isn't stupid.
DeleteWell, If I knew you, I'd be worse off too.

ReplyDeleteRe 30MM dying in nuclear explosion. It would take numerous fission bombs (atomic bombs) to kill 30MM people. Perhaps the largest fusion (hydrogen) bomb ever detonated might kill something like that number if detonated in a megalopolis, but I doubt it. The largest ever detonated was Mr. Khrushchev's "Czar Bomba," at 57MT, set off on Novaya Zemlya island in the Arctic.
Iran is thought to be working on a fission bomb, very destructive, as was the case with Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
How do you know that the nuclear fall-out would be so contained and defined? How many people would die over 50 years.
DeleteI'm not qualified to answer those questions. The point is-Iran 'could' develop a portable nuclear device, and kill a bunch of people on NYC. Doing nothing, which is what you profess, essentially assures that possibility.
Because instead of sitting around making shit up, our military, and others, have spent nearly 70 years studying every aspect of nuclear devices and explosions.
DeleteA portable device would have between 1/10 and 1/3 the yield of the Hiroshima blast. A high wind might distribute fallout as far as ten miles down range, but the most likely scenario would be under 5 miles.
95% of deaths from fallout would occur within 30 days.
You're right, you're not qualified to answer any question, because you "think" like a five year old and your opinions are based on nothing.
As stated before, Iran has not begun to develop any nuclear device. When they do, our intelligence services will know and will have at least two years to figure out what to do about it. Iran does not have anywhere near the financial ability to pay the astronomical cost of miniaturization required to build a portable device.
You can babble on as long as you want, but you haven't got a clue what you're talking about...as always.
No one, No one, has said do nothing. That is just false. And we have been doing something. Bombing is not the only answer. Someone has been hacked into their computer systems. Sanctions are hurting.
DeleteTo say that Stab advocates doing nothing is, frankly, a lie.
DeleteHey Rush, just for the record, you hardly sound like a nuclear physicist, so why don't you just can your 'expert' jibber jabber about nuclear bombs, okay?
DeleteBob....Rush's 'dummy' hay ride is full today. dotnet got on it, and a few others are trying. Wait til tomorrow.

The INA 287(g) program has been ended because of thousands of confirmed discrimination cases across the country.
ReplyDeleteBelow is a list of some of the charges made in the DOJ report on Alamance County.
1. Deputies stopped Latino drivers 4 to 10 times more often than non-Latino drivers.
2. Deputies looked at the identifications of Latino drivers at checkpoints while not asking for IDs from drivers of other ethnicities.
3. Deputies arrested Latinos for minor traffic violations while issuing only citations or warnings to non-Latinos for the same violations.
4. The sheriff and ACSO leadership "foster a culture of bias by using anti-Latino epithets."
Sounds like the Alamance County Sheriff's Office is also the Alamance Chapter of the KKK. Dunce ought to move over there...right up his alley.

The national Rasmussen poll means little. How's Romney doing in OH, PA, MI, WI, CO, NV, NH, among others? He will not win if he cannot take OH, and he is behind there. I'm no Obama fan, as well established, but I am a reality fan, and the reality is that a 2% national polling lead means nothing. Besides, the margin of error is probably more than that, anyway.
ReplyDeleteAnd it appears that Romney trails in VA. The Electoral College doesn't look good for him at the moment.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you Stab. I'm a realist too. The next few weeks, and the debates will be critical for Romney.

What are you?
"I'm with you Stab. I'm a realist too. The next few weeks, and the debates will be critical for Romney."
ReplyDeleteGotta love it when the skanky little remora swims up and attaches his vacuum mouth to the body of the great white shark. Be sure and suck those body cavities clean, skank…it's the most important part of your job.
I wasn't aware that "realists" made so many absolutely ridiculous hysterical statements. Let's look at just a few from today:
"I'm just glad Romney is projected win N.C"
Almost English, but we must wonder just who "projected" anything.
"I was speaking of SMSAs not CSAs. Nuclear fall-out would spread for hundreds and hundreds of miles, which could possibly affect the entire east coast. Killing 30 million would not be impossible."
He was speaking of 30 million people in New York. A CSA is a collection of SMSAs. Geography obviously not a top subject.
Nuclear weapons also obviously not a top subject…fallout from a portable nuke could affect the entire east coast and kill 30 million? Laughable.
"I'm sorry that Stab looked like a boob with his comment…"
If you're going to be licking the shark's cavities, it's not a good idea to be insulting the shark. Might get nibbled right up.
"Look it up-33 countries. It's on FoxNews. The most trusted name in news."
No comment needed.
"I stand by my estimate that 30 million 'could' be killed, however."
One wonders what the basis of his "estimate" is. But hey, his hero Mitty is standing by his foolish remarks about the "47%", so why not follow in Daddy's footsteps.
"Drug traffickers smuggle tons of cocaine into to (sic) the U.S. every year, so your top statement is ludicrious."
Yep, smuggling drugs and smuggling nuclear weapons are exactly the same thing. Oranges and oranges.
I won't repeat his stupid story about Richard Childress.
"This could change the election…Obama is slowly having a political melt down. I don't know if he can hang on until the election…He's got a ton of liberal news outlets campaigning as hard as they can though. Maybe he can make it…But it's looking worse everyday."
Now there is some "realist" talk for you. I heard that the President may run up the white flag tomorrow and move out. Mitty could be in the Oval Office by Friday with his foot still firmly planted in his mouth.
"Strange.....most people I know are worse off."
Phargo hit that one right on the head: "Well, if I knew you, I'd be worse off too."
"Most of my friends can hardly walk anymore. They've got something called 'taxes' rammed up their Clinton."
Interesting comment at a time when "taxes" are the lowest they've ever been in modern times. Either his "friends" (hard to imagine who they might be) are pitiful losers, or they've got some part of Dunce stuck up their "Clintons" and just think it is taxes.
"Rasmussen has Romney up 2. Don't count your chickens just yet, liberals."
As anyone who knows anything about anything knows, the least important poll numbers are about the popular vote. RCP's electoral vote chart shows the President leading Mr. Foot&Mouth 237-191. There are 9 states with 110 votes in the toss-up category. The President only needs 33 of those votes. He is leading in the polls in all but 1 of those states, which has 15 votes. And more importantly, his numbers are moving up in all of the states. he might even win Iowa.
If the election were held today, the most likely result would be Obama 332, Mitty 206. Mitty's only hope is now the debates. Just imagine the wooden Indian taking down the President on national television.
So much for the "realist". Keep on sucking, Bucky.
