The Leopard's Limb TH 09/01/11 (leftovers, off-topics, requested postings, etc.)

Have we tried throwing a bucket of water on her?
I keep hoping that Hillary Clinton and her husband will take their millions in book royalties and payoffs and fade into retirement. But no such luck so far, as there is some talk, no doubt fatuous, of her challenging her boss for the Dem Prez nomination. And she intrudes here in the Branch Office. My apologies to one my heroes, the Wicked Witch of the West.

Leftover from yesterday is a thread regarding our current Secretary of State:

I confess that, if it didn't shoe-horn a republican into office, I would love to see a Dem primary challenge. As in Hillary. I know it won't happen. I wish I had known that she had a bigger set of cojones than Obama. Everyone said that she was way too divisive and could never get anything done on the Hill. But at least she would have looked good kicking some Repub ass. For that matter, could she have been any less effective from a progressive viewpint? I doubt it. Obama is far too mainstream/right for my taste. Almost a Bush II. Despite all of his shortcomings, he's still worth voting for, if for no other reason than he pisses republicans off and makes them so crazy that they don't see that he is farther right of center than most progressives and liberals would like.

Speaking of cojones. Obama has agreed to President Boehner's demand that he reschedule his jobs speech. I ask you: Would Hillary have been stupid enough to schedule the conflict and then back down? I think not. Maybe you rethuglicans are right for all of the wrong reasons.

ajv...if you are online sept1 am, Hillary would not have been so sophmoric and let her people talk her into pulling this stunt in the first place. It was a no win.

Oops!
Union catspaw Hilda Solis, who is the Secretary of Labor, recently attended a summit in TX in which she slammed TX labor policies, and by implication, Prez wannabe Perry. She arrived at the summit in a Chevrolet Equinox SUV, which she chose to demonstrate her support of American workers. Nice try, but wrong country, sorta. The popular Equinoxes are assembled in two plants, both in Canada. Not to worry, though: the plants' hourly workers are members of the Canadian branch of the UAW.

In fairness to the SOL, 66% of the parts that go into an Equinox are made in the US.

Another bite of the Apple
In a repeat of a similar earlier occurrence, another prototype Apple iPhone has been lost, apparently by an employee visiting a San Francisco watering hole. The last time, an employee left a prototype iPhone 4 behind. This time, a staffer with a taste for south-of-the-border booze left what is thought to be a prototype iPhone5 in a tequila bar. Attempts to trace and find the phone have failed. The iPhone 5 is rumored to be announced sometime this month.

One would think that Apple might wish to include in its employee handbook a specific proscription against getting hammered in bars while testing unreleased equipment.

  1. Good AM, AJV, whenever you read this!

AJV, what "progressive"/liberals policies would you like to see implemented, aside from annoying "Rethuglicans"?

Hillary's negatives are high, and would cause problems if she ran for office, aside from her probably causing many African-American voters to sit it out. Regardless of his politics, which aren't so centrist as you suggest), President Obama is generally likable on a person basis. Hillary is not. And I have seen her in action, reasonably close (15 feet or so) and personal.

  2. There is an outside chance Obama could get a primary opponent, but not likely. Someone trying to occupy that thin sliver of ground to his left would put the entire worn out threads of modern day Liberalism on full display. That can not be allowed.

  3. Got to give the Apple employee points for knowing where to drink. A friend who knows me better than anyone else gives me an annual birthday present of a fifth of El Tesoro de Don Felipe Anejo tequila.

It is not the most expensive tequila, maybe $50-60 per bottle, but it has been my favorite ever since I toured the distillery in Jalisco, near Puerto Vallarta, in the 1960s. Have been back several times, because it is the best distillery tour ever. Still hand made, from their own home grown blue agave plants.

As to the missing prototype, not that big a deal. Everything that Apple has done since day one has been copy catted by everybody else, but no one has ever come close to matching their products.
