Winston-Salem Journal LTE's MO 09/26/11

Good AM, folks! Dr. Cutri has made his monthly housecall.

Suppose
Your Aug. 31 editorial "Conservative drive all about politics," about the proposed state constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage was the only one of the many editorials I have read on the subject that contained this basic insight: The federal judiciary need not accord any greater deference to a state constitutional amendment than to a state statute.

In order to get enough votes to put the constitutional amendment referendum on any ballot, the Republican legislative leaders had to agree to put the referendum on the primary ballot instead of the general election ballot.

Suppose that the presence of the referendum on the primary ballot changes the dynamics of the Republican presidential primary just enough to change the result.

Suppose that the North Carolina victory is just enough to hand the Republican nomination to a candidate who narrowly loses to President Obama in November.

Suppose that a second-term Obama appointee to the U.S. Supreme Court provides the fifth vote to overturn both the North Carolina constitutional amendment and the North Carolina statute it was designed to reinforce.

Supreme irony.

This reminds me of the dog with a firm grip on a tasty bone who allowed himself to covet too much the bone in the mouth of the dog he saw reflected in the surface of the pond.

Hostility
Hate lives long and dies slowly. For some, it's a conviction that's passed on to their young. Discrimination survived the Civil War through segregation and public lynchings. It took another century for legislation to grant social justice. Laws, however, do not annul hate.

Hostility for President Obama ranges from ridicule to assassination threats. Some are enraged by the thought of a "black" president presiding over a "white" nation. During a national address, Rep. Joe Wilson shouted, "You lie!" His slander diminished him, discredited his party and pandered to the hate vote. Racism corrupts the soul of a person and tears the social fabric of a people.

Commercial factions will spend millions bribing congressmen and persuading voters to reject this administration that threatens their financial privileges. Like Roosevelt, Obama is hated by tight-fisted moneyed interests.

For some people, money is highly addictive, creating a compulsive drive for its acquisition and an insatiable need for more. They regard taxes as theft by a rapacious government for redistribution to an unworthy underclass. Their obsession is to make government small and impotent.

Conservative congressional leaders deliberately prolong the recession on the backs of recession victims. They're willing to let the unemployed and the dispossessed fend for themselves for another few years to defeat Obama. Their presidential choice may not be responsible to all the people. George W. Bush and Dick Cheney were committed to serving the interests of an elite minority.

Class warfare is a blood sport that's bleeding the middle-class white.

  1. Obama: GOP Would 'Cripple America'

Let's go down the list of Obama's accomplishments:

    Corruption is up under Obama
Gas prices are up under Obama
    Unemployment is up under Obama
Taxes are going up under Obama
Wasteful spending is up under Obama
Health Care prices are going up under Obama

    and last but not least,

the federal deficit has increased more in 2 1/2 years than 8 years under Bush, and Obama wants to spend more.

75% of Americans think the United States is headed in the wrong direction.

I think America is already 'crippled' Mr. President. You are unfit for duty, and you will be dismissed soon.

  2. Mr. Cutri,

Many people wondered how long it would take before the Democrats started calling the GOP racists because Obama's poll numbers are falling like a rock. You see, like the Clinton years, Democrats never accept blame for anything. Do you remember when Monica Lewinsky tackled Bill Clinton and forced him to receive a 'blow job'? Well, I do.

Please come over and join Club Nitwit in the LTE Branch Office. You'll fit in magnificently.

You're always good for one periodic, idiotic, Democratic based babble. See you next month.

    Sincerely,
    Bucky

  11. Poor Dr Cutrie. He seems to be on the way to becoming a deeply disturbed man. He and his party's mental state have been shattered since the back to back defeats of the Soviet Union and the loss of the US House in 1994. Since he put color on the menu, America resents a Red president presiding over the American nation. This recession was deepened and made to last by the first two years of legislative "successes" when his party controlled all of government. The goal is to make government LIMITED as it was intended.

  12. Gov Bev. Perdue (D) said that the GOP would take the state backward. Most everything the GOP has done has moved the state forward, and they have done a good job of cleaning up the financial messes that the Democrats left behind.

I would get in another jab, but Bobby doesn't like it when I bring up THAT topic.

  13. Hey Bobby, did you see that hiker, Josh Fattal give his little speech yesterday? I can understand he's been locked up for two years, so if he's a 'little' wacky I could understand. But wow...! I thought Rush/Kitty Kat had taken the stage when he started speaking.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I don't mind you bringing up any topic, even your idee fixe. It's just abnormal, deviant if you will, for anyone to be so pre-occupied with sex.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Well...it settled a lot of questions I had in my mind about the hikers. Why would anyone go hiking on the Iraq/Iranian Border? You'd have to be a little nuts, right? He was, in fact, a lot nuts.

Their backgrounds didn't fit the profile for 'spies'. I don't know why the Iranians kept them for so long.

    ReplyDelete
  20. In fact, I've never met a hetero that enjoyed gay repartee so much. To be PC, I'll just call you "unique".

    ReplyDelete
  21. Yep...if you don't like unions or gay people, this is the blog for you. And if you don't like gay union members, forget about it.

Like a teamster with a high heel fetish...your head might explode.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Good AM, Bob, WW, Arthur, and Bucky.

Arthur, I believe Bucky is pretty much a blog unto himself re gay issues, as most of the other posters here do not share his outlook, and certainly not his fixation.

I told OT I would depart the subject of unions, but since you brought them up, I keep waiting for a defense of card check bullying (and its institution by regulatory fiat) and the NLRB persecution of Boeing. What I'm really obsessed with is seeing you liberals reconcile coercion on behalf unions with the much-proclaimed believe in Freedom of Choice.

Moving on, Dr. Cutri's assertion that racism motivates opposition to President Obama is a stale smelly red herring. Opposition to Obama is for the most part based on policy and results.

To suggest that opposing Obama is racist is to falsely color the argument. But screaming "Racism!" at the first sign of oppositon is a favored leftist tactic. Rep. Wilson's "You lie!" outburst was not inherently racist as Dr. Cutri implies. The accusation may have actually been correct (I don't recall the context). The interruption was certainly rude and disrespectful, and shamed Wilson's district.

Dr. Cutri limits his reporting by saying FDR and Obama are "hated by tight-fisted moneyed interested." OK, so what? Others oppose him for reasons dissimilar to the tight-fisted interests cited. I am neither tight-fisted nor moneyed, nor do I hate President Obama. I oppose many of his policies and appointments, while supporting a few others, increased fuel mileage standards, for example. I regard FDR as having been a generally bad President, but don't waste time hating him, either.

As for class warfare, that is waged quite relentless by the left. Hands are dirty all across the political spectrum.

  26. Good afternoon folks!
LTE 1: I envision that by mid-century there will be an SC ruling that overturns all of the state amendments prohibiting same-sex marriages. Allowing same-sex marriages harms no one, but disallowing denies gay couples all of the tax and legal advantages that comes with being in a married relationship.
LTE 2: One only has to read the comment sections on various news sites to see that racism is alive and well and behind a small part of the criticism of Obama. I recall when Clinton was President, there was a cottage industry set up to link him with everything from fraud to murder in order to discredit him, so much of the more outlandish claims, such as the birther and Muslim claims can be attributed to this intolerance of any D being in office regardless of color. And of course, much of the criticism is genuinely based on Obama's policies, leadership style and current state of the country. I have read some articles that suggest that the R's letter to Bernacke requesting no further stimulus be attempted is proof of the R's desire to sabotage the economy in hopes of winning the WH in 2012. One would hope that both sides are aware that none of those running may be returned in 2012 if things don't improve.

    ReplyDelete
  27. dotnet...I know you don't do a whole lot of thinking based on your posts, but did you ever think the Rs might not want to go along with Obama's proposal to spend more money because they don't want to run up the deficit any further than it already is?

Also, while worrying about the tax credits the gay and lesbian community are not receiving, you can also worry about the single people, they are in the same boat.

Also, when you're worrying about gay and lesbians, you can worry about white males who are discriminated against on a daily basis because of affirmative action.

Yes, dotnet...you've got a lot to worry about besides gay and lesbian issues, but I doubt you will.

  43. Porsche versus porcelain: Millionaire businessman's luxury car 'lurched forward' and crashed into public toilets

    By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Last updated at 12:28 PM on 25th September 2011

A millionaire businessman will probably have to spend more than a penny after his luxury Porsche Cayman ploughed into a toilet building.

Watts Tyre Group boss Deputy Lord Lieutenant John Thurston was travelling with his wife Mary, 59, when the vehicle careered off the road and smashed into the loo.

Horrified motorists immediately contacted police to report a grey Porsche was stuck in the wall of the public facilities in a car park off Bream Road in Lydney, Gloucester.

A smaller wall in front of the toilets was also destroyed in the accident which took place around 1pm last Sunday after the car 'lurched forward', according to the 71-year-old driver.

Mr Thurston and his wife Mary, 59, were both uninjured in the collision. The only occupants of the toilet were two Americans, identified only as Knothead Senior and Junior.

The Porsche appeared to have been leaving the Watts Group headquarters in the High Street when the drama occurred.

As it was being driven out of the car park it shot across both lanes of the road and crashed into the wall.

The road was closed for a short time and until the car was recovered at about 5pm.

  44. Good evening, OT.

Apparently, loo stall walls are made of stern stuff, and protected our two regular posters.

Having traveled in the UK, I suggest to the Knotheads that they extend their touring to other than loos. But, if they must, Carrickfergus Castle in Northern Ireland has a loo that deposited its contents into the waters of a bay off the Irish Sea. A cold perch it must have been, and is no longer used.

  47. When the Germans invaded the Communist USSR in 1941, anti-Communist Winston Churchill spoke favorably, sort of, re the besieged Sovs: "If Hitler invaded Hell, I'd put in a favorable word for the Devil" (probably not an exact quote, but close).

Similarly, I am not aligned with many of President Obama's policies (and he is neither a Communist nor the Devil), but I must put in a word for him. He has ruffled Maxine Waters' Perennially Indignant feathers with a speech he gave to the Congressional Black Caucus, telling them "to put on their marching shoes," and "stop grumbling." Amen to the latter quote, especially, Mr. Prez. Good on ya!

  48. OT, I suspect that the "Arab Spring" does indeed have His Majesty a bit apprehensive. He may think that women prefer the safe status quo. OTOH, there are no elections scheduled, so this may be window dressing.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Maybe that is why their actual civil disobedience is aimed at driving rather than voting. All of the women who participated in the driving demonstrations were careful to have a male relative or guardian with them, so the only offence that they were committing was driving without a license. Apparently, the government wisely ignored most of it, but you have to start somewhere.

Consider that 100 years ago most US women could not vote, nor did they have many other of the "rights" that they have today. And they still have a way to go.
