Word watch
"at this point in time": from an NBC reporter. "in time" is redundant.
"period of time": likewise, "of time" is redundant. A period is a span of time. Or a little black dot terminating a sentence.
The buck stops here

Bob...good am. Would you happen to have the Cliffs Notes version of the above? Time is tight (Booker T and the MGs).

ReplyDeleteBobby...I was asking our in house historian to give a summary of his life and presidency. He seems to enjoy busy work, so I thought I'd give him something to do.
ReplyDeleteGood Morning by the way.
Good AM, Bob and Bucky!
ReplyDeleteI can't speak for OT, but I suspect he might possibly defer to Bob in Buchanan lore.
Bobby...I would like to hear your opinion on President James Buchanan's presidency, if you're up for it. I'm sure it would be much more objective and informative than Kitty Kat's.
ReplyDeleteHe was a doughface and mouthpiece for his pro-slavery dominated Cabinet (Cobb, Thompson, Floyd, and Brown). He was inaugurated March 4th and Chief Justice Roger B. Taney issued the opinion on Dred Scott v Sanford on March 6th. He was on the wrong side in Bleeding Kansas and supported the pro-slavery, Lecompton Constitution..... Read 1857 (Stampp)

ReplyDeleteAccording to Rassmusen, the only president with higher unfavorablity ratings than Bush (59% unfavorable) is Nixon (60% unfavorable), LBJ (41%), HWBush (40%),.......
ReplyDelete56% disapprove of Obama, and he's got a year and a half to go. Give him time. He'll tie Bush at least.

ReplyDeletePerhaps the most insidious character amongst Buchy's boys was John Slidell, senator from LA. His name makes my skin crawl.
ReplyDelete: the Ostend Manifesto, the handling of Dred Scott, the Lecompton Convention, association with Robert Walker, the findings of the Covode Committee of 1860. 7 states seceded under Buchanan, the panic of 1857,
ReplyDeleteI met a guy from Slidell when I attended a convention in Las Vegas. Looked like Buddy Hackett, but was funnier. He sat with my wife and me during a Dean Martin show, got tossed out for yelling a song request to Dean.
ReplyDeleteAfter the show, we caught up with him. He told us he would show us how to play roulette. He bought $50 in chips, a respectable amount in 1979, at least to us. He plopped the chips all on one number. The wheel spun and the ball landed on a different number.
"Now, I can go to bed," he explained, "rather than make chincy little bets and stay up another hour or so."
Buchanan was an interesting character. He took a lot blame for the Civil War. He was from Pennsylvania, and if you've never been there, you'd never know how much it looks like N.C. in some places.
ReplyDeleteThe reason I brought him up is because he was the president just before the Civil War. Some 51% of Americans think that there will be civil unrest in the U.S. in the next ten years.
Where will Obama's place in history be?
Who blamed Buchanan for the Civil War? He does get a lot of criticism for being weak, indecisive, and unimaginative.
ReplyDelete"7 States seceded under Buchanan, the panic of 1857"
ReplyDeleteHe received criticism for not doing anything about it, and he sympathized with southern states.
That's what I've read Bobby. Am I wrong that he didn't receive any of the blame?
I didn't say you were wrong. Who authored what you read?
ReplyDeleteI read your link, and I was clicking various Buchanan sites because I wanted to know what happen just before the Civil War.
ReplyDeleteI starting doing a little research because of the poll I read about 51% of Americans thinking that there will unrest in the next ten years.
I know I'm not a history buff, Buffy er Bobby.
ReplyDeleteAmerica was built on unrest.
ReplyDeleteOkay, it looks like it's going to continue.
ReplyDeleteit's very simple and efficient, Bob, B-o-b, just like it says.
ReplyDeleteit's fruitless and wasteful of time, effort, bytes, money to type beyond the b in Bob
ReplyDeleteOkay Bob...I just remember the good 'ole days when you and I were just Linds and Buffy. Sorry
ReplyDeleteWhat happened to the Journal re: its censorship? It got nasty all of sudden.
ReplyDelete"Some 51% of Americans think that there will be civil unrest in the U.S. in the next ten years."
ReplyDeleteDuh! There are a number of incidents of civil unrest in the US every year. One is a near guarantee...whichever city's team wins the NBA title will be in danger of being burned down during the "celebration".
There was an incident yesterday in Charlotte...several people were arrested for obstructing traffic. There will be quite a few more in the coming year as the elections approach.
Civil unrest is a part of our heritage, but it does not obey the laws of democracy, so the fact that 51% expect civil unrest is meaningless. In fact, 51% is just about the number of morons on the loose at any given time in the US.
Talk about trivial topics.
Major Civil Unrest....Kitty Kat. Jeez
ReplyDeleteSenor Buckhorn is always willing to show his, well, you know what, especially when posing for the leerers at the Y.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure that he dreams of committing civil unrest, as in a rising of old, middle class white men marching on Washington with their pitchforks at order arms. Don't hold your breath. Too lazy, too chicken.
Oh, and the etymology for "Buckhorn":
1. The horn of a buck. Once again, sounds like our boy.
