Gay marriage
Bucky: in response to your early AM comments elsewhere, if Adam and Steve set up housekeeping across the street from your doubtless well fortified residence, how does that materially affect your existence?
Word watch
deets: I liked this one, in a tweet from Capitol Hill reporter Jamie Dupree, who was tweeting about the R debate last night. That is shorthand for "details," as in "deets follow."
Sh!t: Oops! This one slipped from the lips of commenator John Gruden, former NFL coach, as he enthused about the action in last night's Patriots-Dolphins game. He uttered his expletive genially, and I sort of did a double-take, as I was only partly following the game, was also exchange comments and attempts at witticisms here. Gruden apologized for the slip a few minutes later.
The Patriots won the game on the strength of QB Brady's 500+ yards of passing, certainly impressive, but with the receivers he has . . .
This is the real world, Gov. Perry
Governor Perry has previously taken on "the third rail of American politics," calling it a Ponzi scheme. Last night, he found that he may have urinated on that electrified third rail, as his opponents amped their criticism. He also took flak from Rep. Bachmann over an executive order that appeared to benefit campaign contributor Merck. Perry made a show of being offended (according to Dupree's tweets), more or less indicating that he would not have issued the order for a mere $5K, which is what Merck gave him. Probably not, gov, but I'm sure Merck execs probably kicked in a good bit individually.
The TX gov caught it from another and somewhat unexpected angle, as he was booed by Tea Party supporters for signing a bill guaranteeing the same educational rights to children of illegal immigrants as children of legal residents have. The gov is right on that one, IMO.
I heard Grudens verbal slip but took little note as I was enjoying the game. I really enjoyed that 99.5 yard TD pass to Welker. I was surprised at Miami's lack of readiness to play a team like NE. I was equally surprised at the Steelers lack of same against Baltimore.
ReplyDeleteIt appears Republicans may have screwed themselves on the gay marriage amendment. It seems they have moved the referendum to May of 2012, if it passes the senate.
ReplyDeleteIf the amendment were on the ballot in November of 2012, it would have had a high likelihood of passage in my view. Because Obama is certain to be a lightening rod for anti-Democratic ideology in N.C. in the upcoming election.
The election in 2012 could get real ugly. Independents are jumping from Obama's ship like lemmings jumping into the sea.
Only the 'TB' people are still sticking with Obama, and I don't mean the Tea Baggers. Hee Hee....you gotta love it.
