Everywhere a sign
I would like to congratulate City Hall for addressing the critical issue of open-air public meetings in such a timely fashion.
The public and passersby are now welcomed to City Hall by an ugly, intrusive sign declaringrestrictions on public involvement in our government rather than opportunity, justice, peace or civic duty. This will do much to foster relationships and develop trust among those groups who traditionally feel their voices are not welcomed at City Hall.
I am offended at this knee-jerk reaction that blemishes our beautiful landscaping and tarnishes the reputation of City Hall.

What a great job
I'm often slow to understand, so at first I didn't get it. All I thought was, wow, what a great job: You get to vote on your own salary.
Then I heard that members of Congress had a better medical plan than the rest of us: Wow, what a job. Lately I heard that our representatives didn't have to comply with laws against insider trading. Gosh, what a deal. (Is it true that, to become a politician, all I have to learn is to lie in a loud voice?)
Some of my friends say the Congress is corrupt, but that's cynical.

No snow
It has been almost an entire month of winter without any snow. This has been really tough to deal with, especially for students. Everyone looks forward to that call you get in the morning saying that school has been canceled or that there is a 2-hour delay.
But not this year. With highs in the 60s for many days and nothing but rain, a winter wonderland is wishful thinking. No snowball fights or sledding down huge hills and acting like kids.
Although it's good not to worry about slippery roads and frozen locks on our cars, that's what winter is all about.
Even the mountains are having a hard season. My season pass to Sugar Mountain has yet to be scanned, nor have my new ski boots been used. It seems like it's not even winter.
In all my years living in Winston-Salem, basically all my life, I have never seen such a warm winter. All I want is a few extra hours to sleep in. Is this too much to ask?

Have a heart
According to the Jan. 14 story "Edwards said to be seriously ailing," "John Edwards has a serious heard condition that will require a medical procedure next month … "
For this to be possible, the man would actually have to have a heart.

"John Edwards has a serious "heard" condition that will require a medical procedure next month … "
ReplyDeleteFor this to be possible, the man would actually have to have a "hear"t.
Sorry can't resist. Others too have a serious "heard" condition and also lack "heart". Difficult to be heard and have your comments taken seriously when they are generally heartless.

DeleteGood AM, Wordly!
ReplyDeleteHeartless or not, it's worth noting that Edwards' heart condition comes at a convenient time for him. Very convEnient.
Agreed.
DeleteJohn Edwards should be in jail for just being a no-good human being. Add on being a corrupt Democrat, and he definitely needs to be in jail.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how his children look at him. I'd tell him and his little girlfriend, Rielle, to shove it.
Off-topic, but the GOP debate was pretty nauseating. Gingy played the food stamp card again, and the crowd cheered states' rights and nullification. And all on MLK day.
ReplyDeleteBut absolutely no racism exists on the right. Such a notion is completely, utterly inconceivable.
*eye roll*
Oh, and they booed...THE GOLDEN RULE!! What kind of a freaking sociopath douchebag boos the golden rule?
DeleteIt is not surprising that the kind of scum who have taken over the Republican Party would boo the Golden Rule. Meanwhile, others are working on their own versions of the Golden Rule...namely, do unto others as they do to you.
DeleteChinese manufacturers showed at least 25 versions of combat drones at the annual Zhuhai air show. Israel and Russia are also developing combat drones which will be for sale to the highest bidder.
It is just a matter of time before such weapons wind up in the wrong hands. It will be interesting to see how the US government weasels around on our "right" to send drones into sovereign nations as opposed to the rights of other drone users to do the same.
Cream rises to the top, but so does Democratic scum. They invented it.
DeleteI can't wait to see Johnny in handcuffs. What a dirt ball!
Here's a group of scummy liberal Democrats at work. They'd rather have the State of Wisconsin go bankrupt than follow the current governor's plan. What a bunch of idiots.

DeleteStab, how is the cat?
DeleteThank you for asking, OT. Roscoe is home after an endoscopy and biopsy, results of the latter to be available in a day or so. I will be giving him steroids and an appetite stimulant-- he isn't eating, but is pretty chipper. As Bucky suggested, Roz is costing a bit. But he is young and a member of the family. He either has inflammatory intestinal disease or lymphoma. Both are treatable but not curable. I'll treat him till he doesn't want to treated, which isn't the case now. He likes being here . Thank you again.
DeleteI was in the kitty hospital when I sent the "I missed something" reply.
DeleteRooting for Roscoe.
DeleteMy all-time favorite cat, a true loony but loving creature, who found more ways to get into trouble than there are stars in the universe, and who liked to snooze on top of my computer monitor and sometimes do his own typing by taking a stroll on the keyboard, eventually contracted lymphoma.
When his time came, I held him while the vet gave him his last injection. I'm sure that he is causing even more trouble today in kitty heaven. I don't believe in heaven for humans, but there must be one for cats, because unlike us, they deserve it.
The U.S. Supreme Court is allowing two business owners to join the Obamacare law suit.
ReplyDeleteThat's a good sign. I would say that's an indication of where the Supremes are headed with Obamacare. Anytime you get a person that claims to be a Constitutional lawyer making laws, and also is a liberal Democrat, you know the U.S. Constitution is about to get raped.

"Nothing about the balance of powers outlined in the Constitution is of interest to a tyrant like our current president. His heavy-handed regulation and staggering debt-accrual policies are suffocating our country. Voters, please pay attention. We cannot afford four more years of this left-wing leadership."
DeleteMary Wilson
Thanks Mary for telling the truth. I think if I hear anymore left-wing propaganda about how Obama is doing such a good job, I think I'm going to throw-up.
Here's something new. A Democrat governor wants to raise taxes. She just happens to be the governor of N.C. They just never stop! Thank Goodness we've got a Republican legislature. My bet is that they'll tell her to shove it.

ReplyDeleteEvening folks!
ReplyDeleteLTE 1: While I understand the city's concern for keeping rabble rousing to a minimum, I prefer to err on the side of free speech and assembly.
LTE 2: Being a member of Congress does have its perks.
LTE 3: This winter does remind me of Scottsdale except for the rain part. What's even worse is that we have daylight saving time to look forward to in a couple of months :p
LTE 4: A bit cold. I pray you never have a heart condition.
re LTE #1: We have one of the most beautiful city halls around, designed by the best architectural firm in the state, Northup & O'Brien, in 1925. The two signs are ugly and detract from the beauty of the property.
DeleteBut the truth is that they are merely a distraction to try to lead us away from what is really going on, an attempt by the city government, marching in lockstep with the banks and other powerful corporations, to try to deny local citizens their First Amendment rights to assemble and petition.
I'm a little tired of people who know nothing about what is going on in W-S babbling on about media driven negativism in LA and elsewhere. If you are too lazy to go down and see for yourself, you can at least go to the Occupy Winston-Salem website and see for yourself.
Watch the videos. You will see City Manager Lee Garrity make a fool of himself citing non-existent law to OWS protesters. You will see City Councilman Dan Besse making a fool of himself arguing that he is only interested in "protecting" the OWS demonstrators from imaginary "counter-demonstrators"...that is what the police are for...not hassling citizens trying to exercise their First Amendment rights.
You will see several police officers making ridiculous arguments...one tells the OWS folks that they cannot have a banner "in December" and that they cannot put signs on stakes in the ground. Really? Wonder why they don't go after political candidates who illegally do that during every election cycle on both city and private property, many being left as clutter after the election is over.
Most ridiculous of all, you will see police officers telling the OWS folks that they cannot go to sleep on city property. Really again? Having attended many city council meetings over the years, I have seen citizens, council members and mayors having a little nap during those meetings. I have never seen anyone do anything about that. Hypocrisy, plain and simple.
And throughout, you will see OWS folks patiently and politely arguing their points about all these non-existent laws and being ignored by the powers that be. Shameful.
I am proud of all the people, young and old, who are participating in this movement with far more dignity than the authorities are exhibiting. If you haven't been there, just shut up, because you don't know what you are talking about.
The City Council is full of liberal, loser Democrats, what do you expect, competence? Please....!
